15th IEA Heat Pump Conference 2026: Program now online

The 15th IEA Heat Pump Conference 2026 is setting new standards: with a total of 380 submissions from around the world, the scientific program impressively highlights the dynamic innovation in the field of heat pump technologies

The program covers 24 key topics – ranging from high-temperature heat pumps for industrial applications and solutions for densely populated urban areas to the integration of heat pumps into comprehensive decarbonisation strategies. Other key topics include grid integration, flexibility, refrigerants, circular economy, and market developments in various regions of the world. The program, including the Book of Abstracts, is now available online and provides a comprehensive overview of all accepted papers. This enables participants to plan their individual program priorities effectively.

In addition to scientific excellence, the conference also provides a strong impetus in the field of energy policy: the Policy Forums bring together international decision-makers from politics, industry, and research to discuss key issues relating to the heat transition – from market design and support mechanisms for resilient supply chains.

Program overview:

  • Plenary keynote lectures by leading international experts, including Yosr Allouche (International Institute of Refrigeration, IIR), Riccardo Savigliano (UNIDO), Karl Gruber (Wien Energie), Mitsunobu Nakajo (Heat Pump & Thermal Storage Technology Center of Japan), and Rushad Nanavatty (Rocky Mountain Institute, RMI)
  • 380 scientific presentations across 24 thematic areas
  • Ten interactive workshops on current technological and market-relevant issues
  • Six site visits to research and testing institutes (AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, RTA), heat pump manufacturers (Vaillant (Senica, Slovakia), ECOP), and innovative demonstration projects in industrial and building applications (such as Takeda, Tulln Town Hall, the main railway station)
  • Three policy forums on key issues in energy policy, technological competitiveness, and the role of heat pump technologies in the achievement of climate targets, organised by the International Energy Agency (IEA), the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) and the Austrian Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure.

About the 15th IEA Heat Pump Conference

This unique international conference has been held every three years since 1984. This year’s upcoming conference is the leading event where industry, researchers, investors, and policy-makers will discuss the latest advances in the field of heat pumps. The conference program is designed by the conference’s scientific committee, comprising representatives from the National Organising Committee (NOC), the International Organising Committee (IOC), the Heat Pump Centre, the regional coordinators, and the scientific advisors. The conference is supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure (BM IMI) as a partner. The chair of the National Organising Committee is Dr Thomas Fleckl, AIT Austrian Institute of Technology. https://hpc2026.org
