Sungrow Expands Home Energy Solutions in Benelux
Sungrow, a global provider of photovoltaic inverters and energy storage systems, has introduced its latest residential and commercial energy solutions to the Benelux market during its “Master Home Energy Dynamics” event in Amsterdam. The gathering brought together approximately 150 installers, distribution partners and virtual power plant (VPP) integrators to discuss the changing energy landscape and the technologies needed to help households and businesses manage electricity more efficiently.
The event comes as the economics of residential solar power across the Benelux region continue to evolve. In the Netherlands, the planned end of the country’s net-metering scheme from January 1, 2027, is expected to increase the importance of maximizing self-consumption. At the same time, dynamic electricity tariffs, growing electricity demand and grid constraints are creating new opportunities for flexible energy management.
As a result, residential energy management is increasingly moving beyond simply generating electricity from solar panels. Homeowners are looking at how to consume electricity at the right time, store surplus generation and determine when energy should be exported to the grid. Sungrow used the Amsterdam event to demonstrate how integrated energy storage and intelligent energy management can support these changing requirements.
At the center of the company’s residential portfolio was PowerHarbor, its latest all-in-one residential energy storage system, which was presented to the Benelux market for the first time. Developed around the “All in Harbor” concept, PowerHarbor combines the inverter, battery, backup functionality and energy management capabilities within a single integrated system.
Sungrow describes the system through its “Triple W” value proposition: Win More, Waste Less and Work Faster. The approach is designed to help homeowners increase the value they obtain from their solar generation while reducing equipment requirements, minimizing space usage and simplifying installation.
More Value From Solar Energy
PowerHarbor is designed to increase the amount of solar energy that can be stored and subsequently used by a household. The system supports up to 160% PV-to-battery charging, allowing the battery to absorb more of the solar generation peak. This can help reduce situations in which excess solar energy would otherwise be curtailed or exported when its value is lower.
The system also provides a 0.66P discharge rate, enabling the battery to respond to changes in household demand and VPP dispatch signals. This allows stored electricity to be made available at times when it can provide greater value to the household or energy system.
Another feature is its ability to accommodate changing loads across household phases. Homes increasingly use high-demand equipment such as heat pumps and electric vehicle chargers, and electricity consumption does not necessarily remain evenly distributed across three phases.
PowerHarbor supports up to 150% three-phase unbalanced output*, providing greater flexibility for households operating high-power appliances. The capability can help homeowners make more effective use of locally generated solar electricity rather than relying unnecessarily on grid power.
Sungrow has also integrated its iHomeManager Mini with PowerHarbor. Described by the company as an AI-based solution, the system provides an AI Mode that can be activated with a single tap. It analyzes factors including weather forecasts, household consumption patterns and dynamic electricity tariffs to help determine when energy should be stored, retained or discharged.
Simplifying Installation
Sungrow is also positioning PowerHarbor around the needs of installers, particularly as installation time becomes increasingly important in the growing residential energy storage market.
The system uses a modular, plug-and-play architecture that allows modules to connect directly without conventional cables. According to Sungrow, each blind-mate connection can be completed in approximately 10 seconds.
External wiring terminals are positioned on the right-hand side of the unit, helping simplify wiring and installation work. The system also incorporates the 5-in-1 EnergyBridge, which Sungrow says is up to 99% smaller by volume than a conventional gateway. Designed to fit inside a standard distribution box, the EnergyBridge can reportedly be installed in approximately 20 seconds without causing wall damage.
PowerHarbor is also designed for homes where available space is limited. With a depth of 25.5 centimeters, the system can be installed in narrow corridors and passageways. The plug-in iHomeManager Mini eliminates the need for a separate energy management system control box, further reducing the number of components required during installation.
PowerKeeper Targets Commercial Energy Needs
Sungrow also used the Amsterdam event to highlight PowerKeeper, its modular commercial and industrial energy storage solution. The system is aimed at businesses where the available grid connection can represent a significant constraint on expansion and electrification.
PowerKeeper’s demand-control capabilities are designed to help businesses keep electricity demand within their existing grid connection while combining peak management with self-consumption and energy arbitrage. This can allow businesses to support additional electricity loads without necessarily waiting for an expanded grid connection.
Its modular architecture enables storage capacity to be scaled according to individual site requirements rather than requiring businesses to install a fixed, oversized system. Capacity can also be expanded as electricity demand increases. Sungrow noted that PowerKeeper has already been deployed in projects in the United Kingdom and Italy.
MiniCube for Space-Constrained Homes
Completing the portfolio showcased in Amsterdam was MiniCube, a compact plug-and-play energy storage solution aimed at apartments, townhouses and other properties where space is limited.
MiniCube offers a power output of 3.68 kW and storage capacity ranging from 5 kWh to 10 kWh. Its compact format provides households with an entry point into energy storage without requiring the larger footprint associated with some conventional residential battery systems.
Industry Perspectives
The Amsterdam event also provided an opportunity for market analysts and installers to discuss practical developments in the European residential storage sector.
Gijs Stevers, market analyst at Equinox Insights, described stackable energy storage systems as part of the market’s continuing development. He said the sector has evolved from multiple brands and separate equipment toward increasingly integrated systems, including stackable products such as PowerHarbor that can expand alongside household requirements.
Nick Vriend, Energy Systems Advisor at Zonzo Duurzame Energie, shared experience from installing PowerHarbor. He said installer time has become an important consideration in the Dutch home battery market and highlighted the system’s design as a way to reduce installation time.
“As the Benelux residential energy market moves from maximizing solar generation toward maximizing the value of every kilowatt-hour, Sungrow is building its portfolio around a more integrated model of home energy,” said Jerry Zhang, Benelux Country Manager at Sungrow.
The company’s approach combines generation, storage, consumption, backup and intelligent energy management across products designed for different residential and commercial requirements.
Sungrow said it will continue working with channel partners, installers and energy innovators across the region. The company is supported in Europe by two research and development centers, seven warehouses and three training and technology competence centers. Through these resources, Sungrow aims to make integrated energy solutions more accessible and practical as the Benelux energy market moves toward greater self-consumption, flexibility and intelligent electricity management.
