Baker Hughes Wins Major Awards to Support Expansion of Cheniere’s Sabine Pass LNG Facility
Baker Hughes has secured three significant contracts related to the continued expansion and modernization of Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass LNG facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, reinforcing its long-standing role in one of the world’s most important liquefied natural gas export hubs. The awards, which were booked during the second quarter of 2026, include major equipment orders and technology upgrade projects designed to increase production capacity and improve operational efficiency across the facility.
The latest agreements cover the supply of liquefaction equipment for Train 7 of the Sabine Pass expansion project, equipment for a new boil-off gas re-liquefaction unit, and a comprehensive fleet-wide upgrade program for the terminal’s installed gas turbine infrastructure. Together, these initiatives are expected to significantly enhance the facility’s LNG production capabilities and further strengthen its position in global energy markets.
Under the Phase 1 expansion project, Baker Hughes will provide seven PGT25+ G4 aeroderivative gas turbines along with 15 centrifugal compressors. These advanced systems will play a central role in powering Train 7 and supporting additional liquefaction operations at the terminal. Once operational, the new equipment is expected to enable approximately 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of incremental LNG production capacity.
The project represents another major milestone in the ongoing growth of Sabine Pass, which has evolved over the past decade into one of the largest LNG export facilities in the world. Located along the U.S. Gulf Coast, the terminal serves as a critical gateway for American natural gas exports to markets across Europe, Asia and other regions seeking reliable and competitively priced energy supplies.
In addition to supplying new equipment for expansion projects, Baker Hughes will undertake a four-year technology upgrade program covering the entire fleet of installed PGT25+ G4 gas turbines at the Sabine Pass facility. These upgrades are designed to improve turbine performance and increase power output, enabling higher production efficiency and maximizing the utilization of existing infrastructure.
The enhancement program is expected to improve operational flexibility while supporting additional LNG production across the terminal’s current installed capacity of approximately 30 MTPA. By increasing turbine efficiency and output, Cheniere aims to optimize operations and strengthen the long-term competitiveness of its LNG export platform.
According to the companies, the combined impact of Train 7, the boil-off gas re-liquefaction unit and the turbine modernization program is expected to add more than 6 MTPA of additional production capacity at Sabine Pass. This expansion will significantly increase the terminal’s ability to meet growing international demand for LNG and support energy security initiatives in key importing regions.
The boil-off gas re-liquefaction unit represents another important component of the project. Such systems capture and reprocess natural gas vapors that naturally evaporate during LNG storage and handling operations. By re-liquefying these gases and returning them to the production process, operators can reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency and maximize product recovery.
The expansion comes at a time when global LNG demand continues to rise due to increasing energy consumption, industrial growth and the ongoing transition toward lower-carbon energy systems. Natural gas is increasingly being viewed as an important transition fuel, offering lower carbon emissions than coal while providing reliable baseload energy for power generation and industrial applications.
Energy markets have also experienced significant shifts in recent years as countries seek to diversify energy supplies and strengthen energy security. LNG has become a crucial component of these strategies, particularly in Europe and Asia, where demand for secure and flexible natural gas supplies remains robust.
Baker Hughes Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Lorenzo Simonelli emphasized the importance of integrated technology solutions in supporting LNG industry growth and helping customers meet rising global energy requirements.
“These comprehensive technology solutions, from advanced liquefaction equipment to lifecycle services, help our customers expand LNG production and meet growing energy demand,” Simonelli said.
He added that Baker Hughes’ broad portfolio of equipment, digital technologies and service capabilities enables the company to provide end-to-end solutions that accelerate project execution, enhance operational reliability and generate long-term value for customers.
Baker Hughes has established itself as one of the leading technology providers to the global LNG industry, supplying turbomachinery, compression systems, digital technologies and maintenance services for major LNG projects around the world. The company has been involved in numerous large-scale LNG developments across North America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
For Cheniere, the latest awards reinforce a long-standing partnership that has been instrumental in the development and growth of the Sabine Pass facility. Since becoming the first large-scale LNG export terminal in the continental United States, Sabine Pass has transformed into a cornerstone of the global LNG trade and a major contributor to U.S. energy exports.
Cheniere Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Jack Fusco highlighted the importance of the collaboration with Baker Hughes and the role of the latest projects in driving operational improvements.
“We are pleased to continue our decades-long collaboration with Baker Hughes, a key partner in the development of Sabine Pass into one of the largest LNG facilities in the world,” Fusco said.
He noted that the new equipment orders, lifecycle services and technology upgrades will facilitate further optimization initiatives and efficiency enhancements across Cheniere’s broader LNG platform.
The expansion of Sabine Pass also carries significant economic implications for Louisiana and the broader Gulf Coast region. Large-scale LNG developments support thousands of jobs during construction and operation while generating substantial economic activity through supply chain investments, infrastructure spending and local business opportunities.
As global energy demand continues to increase, investments in LNG infrastructure are expected to remain a major focus for energy companies seeking to provide secure, affordable and lower-emission energy solutions. Projects such as the Sabine Pass expansion demonstrate the industry’s commitment to improving efficiency, increasing production capacity and deploying advanced technologies to meet evolving market requirements.
With the addition of Train 7, the implementation of new re-liquefaction capabilities and the modernization of existing gas turbine systems, Sabine Pass is positioned to further strengthen its role as one of the world’s premier LNG export facilities. The latest contracts also underscore Baker Hughes’ growing importance as a strategic technology partner in enabling the next phase of global LNG development and supporting the expanding role of natural gas in the international energy landscape.
