Mirion Technologies (NYSE: MIR), a leader in advanced radiation safety solutions, has secured two major contracts to support the Sizewell C project, a 3.2-gigawatt nuclear power station in East Suffolk, UK. Utilizing EDF’s expertise and EPR (European Pressurized Reactor) technology, Sizewell C will generate enough low-carbon electricity to power around 6 million homes and will replicate the design of Hinkley Point C, currently under construction in Somerset.
The October 2024 contract covers the supply of Electrical Penetration Systems (EPS), which enable secure cable passage through the reactor’s containment walls. These systems ensure reliable sealing and uninterrupted electrical circuits, even in unexpected conditions, while maintaining safe containment of the reactor building.
In May 2024, Mirion also secured a contract for Boron Meter Systems, crucial for measuring boron levels in water to control nuclear reaction rates within light water reactors.
“We are proud to be part of Sizewell C, a landmark project for sustainable energy in the UK,” said Loïc Eloy, President of Mirion’s Technologies Group.
Fernando Tiefensee, Programme Manager at Sizewell C, highlighted Mirion’s proven expertise, stating, “This collaboration strengthens our commitment to safe and reliable energy solutions and aligns with the UK’s energy goals.”
Mirion’s ongoing partnership with the Sizewell C team reinforces its role in delivering top-tier systems for advanced nuclear projects. Eloy added, “We look forward to supporting a sustainable energy future.”
