TE H2, CIP, and A.P. Møller Capital Launch Major Green Hydrogen Project in Morocco

Under the auspices of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco and French President Emmanuel Macron, the Moroccan government and TE H2, along with partners Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and A.P. Møller Capital, have signed a preliminary contract for land reservation for the “Chbika” project. This project, situated on Morocco’s Atlantic coast in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, aims to develop 1 GW of solar and wind energy to produce green hydrogen from desalinated seawater, which will then be converted into 200,000 tons of green ammonia annually for the European market. This marks the first phase of a large-scale green hydrogen hub in Morocco.

TE H2, a joint venture between TotalEnergies and the EREN Group, and CIP will lead renewable energy production for the project, while A.P. Møller Capital will oversee port and infrastructure development. This initiative highlights Morocco’s potential in renewables and supports economic growth.

TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné expressed gratitude for Morocco’s trust in TE H2 and its partners, emphasizing Morocco’s strategic advantages in supporting Europe’s Green Deal goals. TE H2 CEO David Corchia noted this contract as a significant milestone in Morocco’s green hydrogen ambitions, promoting energy transition, industrialization, and job creation. CIP partner Philip Christiani praised Morocco’s role in global energy transition, while A.P. Møller Capital CEO Kim Fejfer highlighted the importance of developing infrastructure for green hydrogen in collaboration with Moroccan stakeholders.
