ONE Nuclear and Sunshine Partners Explore Development of Major Energy Projects Across West Texas
ONE Nuclear Energy LLC (“ONE Nuclear”), an independent developer focused on large-scale energy solutions combining natural gas generation and advanced nuclear technologies, has announced a strategic collaboration with Sunshine Partners US LLC (“Sunshine Partners”) to evaluate the joint development of power generation projects across a significant portfolio of sites in West Texas.
The companies have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to explore opportunities within the “West Texas Platform,” a collection of five strategically located sites spanning approximately 18,275 acres across five counties in the ERCOT West market. The partnership aims to assess the potential for developing a diverse range of energy and industrial infrastructure projects designed to support growing electricity demand throughout the region.
The West Texas Platform represents a major opportunity to expand energy capacity in one of the nation’s most active power markets. The sites are positioned to support multiple energy technologies and industrial applications, including natural gas-fired power generation, solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) systems, advanced nuclear energy facilities, utility-scale solar projects, battery energy storage systems (BESS), data centers, and advanced manufacturing developments.
West Texas has emerged as a critical hub for America’s energy transition and industrial expansion. The region combines abundant renewable resources, extensive energy infrastructure, large areas of available land, and proximity to rapidly increasing electricity demand. These advantages have made West Texas an attractive destination for companies seeking reliable power solutions to support new industrial facilities, technology infrastructure, and large-scale energy projects.
The collaboration between ONE Nuclear and Sunshine Partners comes at a time when Texas is experiencing unprecedented growth in electricity consumption. Demand is being driven by several factors, including the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence computing, hyperscale data centers, industrial reshoring initiatives, electric vehicle adoption, and broader electrification trends.
As power availability becomes increasingly important for economic growth and grid reliability, the need for scalable, dependable, and flexible energy solutions continues to rise. The companies believe the West Texas Platform can play an important role in addressing these challenges by creating an integrated energy ecosystem capable of supporting future industrial and technology investments.
“For ONE Nuclear, this platform represents a compelling opportunity to help address one of the most important energy challenges facing the United States – delivering reliable, scalable power where demand is growing fastest,” said Coen Weddepohl, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investment Officer of ONE Nuclear.
Weddepohl added that the sites provide strong infrastructure advantages and significant development flexibility. By combining Sunshine Partners’ expertise in site development with ONE Nuclear’s phased gas-to-nuclear deployment strategy and behind-the-meter power solutions, the companies aim to create a framework capable of supporting long-term energy needs across West Texas.
Sunshine Partners highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership and the potential of the West Texas Platform to become a model for integrated energy development.
“We are excited to partner with ONE Nuclear to evaluate the development potential of the West Texas Platform,” said Marcus Jacobsson, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sunshine Partners.
According to Jacobsson, Sunshine Partners’ strategy focuses on developing integrated Energy Super Sites that combine renewable generation, energy storage, and firm power resources to provide reliable electricity for communities, industrial users, the grid, and large-scale technology facilities.
The company’s development approach includes utility-scale solar, battery storage, and low-emissions solid oxide fuel cell technology designed to provide high-availability power. Sunshine Partners believes ONE Nuclear’s phased gas-to-nuclear strategy complements this approach by providing an additional pathway toward long-term, reliable, and lower-carbon energy development.
The partnership also reflects Sunshine Partners’ broader commitment to responsible community-focused development. The company emphasized its goal of creating projects that deliver lasting economic benefits and establish long-term value for the communities where its developments are located.
The creation of Sunshine DevCo, the company’s dedicated West Texas development arm formed through its merger with TBRE, has helped accelerate the assembly of the West Texas Platform. Sunshine Partners stated that the platform’s scale and strategic characteristics have created opportunities for collaboration with leading energy developers.
Together, the five sites offer a combination of key development advantages, including transmission access, water availability, diversified infrastructure opportunities, and large-scale acreage. These factors position the platform to support a wide range of future investments in energy generation, data center infrastructure, and advanced industrial facilities.
The companies will now work together to evaluate development strategies, commercial opportunities, and potential project pathways across the West Texas Platform. Their focus will be on identifying solutions that can deliver reliable, scalable power while supporting economic growth and strengthening energy infrastructure throughout the region.
Through this collaboration, ONE Nuclear and Sunshine Partners aim to create a next-generation energy development model that integrates multiple technologies and supports the evolving needs of Texas’ growing economy. The partnership reflects a broader industry trend toward combining traditional energy resources, advanced nuclear technologies, renewable generation, and energy storage to build a more resilient and flexible power system.
