Woodside’s Board is thrilled to announce the appointment of Mr. Anthony (Tony) O’Neill as a non-executive Director, effective June 3, 2024.
In an ongoing effort to ensure the Board’s alignment with Woodside’s global operations and strategic growth prospects, we meticulously evaluate our Board composition. Mr. O’Neill brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our team, particularly in his groundbreaking contributions to the global mining sector, with a focus on climate, decarbonization, and sustainability initiatives.
With a distinguished career spanning leadership positions across various countries and commodities, Mr. O’Neill’s journey commenced as an engineer in Australian nickel mines. His tenure culminated at Anglo American, where he served as Group Executive Director of Technical and Sustainability until December 2022. During his tenure, Mr. O’Neill spearheaded transformative projects, notably overseeing the deployment of hydrogen-powered mining trucks, a pioneering initiative in the industry.
Mr. O’Neill’s commitment to sustainability is evident through his involvement in leading initiatives such as Anglo American’s FutureSmart Mining, the Waterless Mine, the Living Mine, and the 2040 Net Zero strategy. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mining Technology from Curtin University in Western Australia and an MBA from the University of Melbourne. Additionally, Mr. O’Neill is recognized as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining.
Joining Woodside as an independent non-executive Director, Mr. O’Neill will contribute his insights to the Audit & Risk, Sustainability, and Nominations & Governance Committees. His appointment emphasizes Woodside’s commitment to enhancing its strategic vision and operational excellence. Mr. O’Neill will stand for election as a non-executive Director at the Annual General Meeting in April 2025, marking a significant milestone in our collective journey towards sustainable growth and innovation.
