NPCC Appoints New Board Member
The Northeast Power Coordinating Council, Inc. (NPCC) has appointed Chong Kiat (CK) Ng to its Board of Directors, adding his extensive electricity-sector experience and leadership expertise to the organization as it continues its work to strengthen the reliability and security of the power grid across Northeastern North America.
NPCC is responsible for promoting the reliable operation of the interconnected bulk power system within its geographic area. As the electricity sector faces changing operating conditions, evolving technologies, infrastructure requirements, and growing demands for resilience, experienced industry leadership plays an important role in supporting coordinated approaches to grid reliability and security.
“We are pleased to welcome CK to the NPCC Board to support our ongoing commitment to enhance the reliability and security of the grid across Northeastern North America,” said Charles Dickerson, NPCC President and Chief Executive Officer. “His strong record of leadership and deep industry knowledge will help inform our strategic perspective as we address evolving challenges and enhance resilience of critical energy infrastructure.”
Ng currently serves as Chief Operating Officer of New Brunswick Power, one of Canada’s major electric utilities. He was appointed to the position in April 2026. In his role, he has responsibility for a broad range of operational and financial functions across the organization.
His responsibilities include Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Finance Operations, the Energy Control Centre and System Operations, Engineering, and the Enterprise Project Management Office. He also provides executive oversight of the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project, a major initiative associated with New Brunswick Power’s Mactaquac generating station.
Through his current position, Ng is involved in activities covering electricity generation, transmission and distribution, system operations, engineering, capital programs, financial operations, and project management. These areas are closely connected to the reliable and secure operation of electric power infrastructure and provide relevant experience for his work with NPCC.
Ng brings more than 26 years of experience in the electricity sector. Throughout his career, he has developed expertise across engineering, asset management, investment planning, capital project delivery, field operations, and business transformation. His professional background includes work covering both technical and executive responsibilities, giving him experience with the different stages involved in developing, operating, maintaining, and modernizing electric power infrastructure.
Ng began his career with Manitoba Hydro, where he worked across the full lifecycle of alternating-current and direct-current transmission-line engineering. His responsibilities during this stage of his career included permitting and licensing, design, estimating, procurement, construction, maintenance, and research and development.
His work at Manitoba Hydro also included participation on national standards committees. This experience provided exposure to industry standards and technical practices relevant to the development and operation of transmission infrastructure.
After leaving Manitoba Hydro, Ng joined Hydro One, where he spent 16 years progressing from technical positions into senior executive leadership roles. During his tenure, he took on responsibilities across a wide range of utility functions, building experience in both operational and strategic areas of the electricity business.
At Hydro One, his responsibilities included engineering and capital project delivery, as well as customer service and asset management. He was also involved in investment planning and rate applications, areas that connect utility infrastructure requirements with long-term financial and regulatory planning.
Ng’s experience at Hydro One further extended into power station maintenance, distribution line maintenance, and large-scale power restoration. These responsibilities provided direct exposure to the operational requirements associated with maintaining electricity infrastructure and responding to system needs.
He also led major technology and business transformation initiatives during his career at Hydro One. This work added a business and organizational transformation dimension to his technical background, including experience with initiatives designed to support changes in utility operations and capabilities.
The combination of technical engineering experience, utility operations, infrastructure investment, maintenance, project delivery, and executive leadership forms a significant part of Ng’s professional background as he joins the NPCC Board of Directors.
His career has covered multiple aspects of the electricity value chain, from transmission-line engineering and construction to system operations, asset management, capital planning, maintenance, restoration, and organizational transformation. This broad experience comes as electric utilities and grid organizations continue to manage increasingly complex infrastructure and operational requirements.
For NPCC, the appointment adds another senior utility executive to its Board as the organization continues to focus on the reliability and security of the interconnected bulk power system in Northeastern North America. Board-level industry expertise can contribute to strategic discussions surrounding infrastructure resilience, system operations, planning, and the changing needs of the electricity sector.
Ng is a Professional Engineer. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Manitoba. He also holds an Executive Master of Business Administration from the University of Toronto.
His educational background combines advanced technical training in electrical engineering with executive business education. Together with more than two decades of professional experience in the electricity industry, these qualifications have supported his progression from technical engineering positions to senior leadership roles within major Canadian utilities.
With his appointment, Ng joins the NPCC Board while continuing to serve as Chief Operating Officer of New Brunswick Power. His responsibilities at the utility encompass generation, transmission and distribution, system operations, engineering, finance, project management, and oversight of the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project.
The appointment reflects NPCC’s continuing emphasis on industry expertise as it works to support reliable and secure electricity service throughout Northeastern North America. Ng’s background across transmission engineering, utility operations, capital investment, asset management, maintenance, restoration, and business transformation provides experience relevant to the organization’s ongoing grid reliability and resilience efforts.
