GE Vernova Strengthens India Wind Energy Presence with New 3.8 MW Turbine Launch and 100 MW Gujarat Project

GE Vernova Inc. has taken a significant step in expanding its renewable energy footprint in India by securing a major agreement with Powerica Limited to supply advanced onshore wind turbines for a new wind power project in Gujarat. The partnership marks the introduction of GE Vernova’s latest 3.8 MW–154m onshore wind turbine to the Indian market, highlighting the company’s commitment to supporting the country’s ambitious clean energy transition while strengthening local manufacturing capabilities.

Under the agreement, GE Vernova will provide 28 units of its newly launched 3.8 MW–154m wind turbine for the Botad Wind Farm, a 100 MW renewable energy project located in Gujarat. The contract covers turbine supply as well as installation services, representing another milestone in the growing collaboration between GE Vernova and Powerica. The project is expected to contribute significantly to Gujarat’s renewable energy generation capacity and support India’s broader objective of increasing clean power production.

The Botad Wind Farm is particularly notable because it represents the first deployment of GE Vernova’s 3.8 MW workhorse turbine in India. Designed specifically to address the evolving requirements of modern wind energy projects, the turbine combines higher power output, improved reliability, and enhanced operational efficiency. The introduction of this platform reflects GE Vernova’s strategy of expanding its onshore wind portfolio with technologies tailored to the needs of one of the world’s fastest-growing renewable energy markets.

Powerica secured the project through a Power Purchase Agreement awarded under a competitive auction organized by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), one of India’s key state-owned electricity procurement agencies. By winning the auction, Powerica strengthened its position in the country’s independent power producer sector while enabling the development of additional renewable energy infrastructure in Gujarat.

According to project plans, deliveries of the wind turbines are expected to begin during the fourth quarter of 2026. Once operational, the wind farm will generate clean electricity that can support regional power demand while helping reduce dependence on fossil-fuel-based generation sources.

In another important development, GE Vernova announced that it has received certification from India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and has been included in the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) for wind turbines. Inclusion on the ALMM is a mandatory requirement for wind turbine manufacturers seeking to participate in India’s wind energy market.

The certification represents a significant achievement for GE Vernova because it validates the company’s technology and manufacturing capabilities according to India’s regulatory standards. It also enables the company to compete for future wind projects across the country, opening additional opportunities in a market expected to experience substantial growth over the coming decade.

The turbines for the Botad Wind Farm will be manufactured at GE Vernova’s facility in Pune, Maharashtra. The company has been investing in expanding local manufacturing capabilities to meet growing demand from the Indian renewable energy sector. Once fully ramped up, the Pune facility is expected to support as much as 1,500 MW of annual production capacity.

The expansion of local manufacturing is a critical element of GE Vernova’s long-term strategy in India. Deepak Maloo, General Manager of GE Vernova’s Onshore Wind business in India, emphasized the significance of both the partnership and the new turbine launch. He noted that the company is excited to continue its collaboration with Powerica while introducing its newest workhorse turbine to the Indian market. According to Maloo, the 3.8 MW–154m platform was engineered to deliver strong performance, operational reliability, and efficiency tailored specifically for India’s wind conditions. He also highlighted that ALMM certification and local manufacturing capabilities position GE Vernova to better support customers as India advances toward its renewable energy goals.

Powerica also welcomed the development. Pradeep Gupta, Whole Time Director of Powerica Limited, described the project as an important step in the company’s renewable energy growth strategy. He noted that the Botad Wind Farm represents the fourth collaboration between Powerica and GE Vernova in Gujarat, underscoring the strength of the relationship between the two companies. Gupta stated that the introduction of the new turbine platform makes the project particularly significant because it has been optimized to provide reliability, scalability, and performance for the Indian market. He added that the project will strengthen Powerica’s independent power producer portfolio while reinforcing its commitment to delivering meaningful contributions to the renewable energy sector.

The newly launched 3.8 MW–154m turbine incorporates several advanced features intended to enhance long-term project economics and operational performance. The platform is designed with an expected operational life of up to 30 years, providing developers and operators with extended asset value. It also includes advanced lightning protection systems that improve resilience and help safeguard critical turbine components.

A notable innovation integrated into the turbine platform is the industry’s first digital blade certification system applied to every blade produced. This technology enables enhanced traceability, quality assurance, and lifecycle management. The digital certification process uses advanced analytics and data-driven methodologies to verify blade quality and manufacturing consistency.

In addition to performance improvements, the turbine has been engineered to support efficient project execution. Features such as a tubular steel tower design and compatibility with 650-ton crane installation capabilities help streamline construction activities, reduce installation complexity, and improve overall project economics. The turbine also incorporates high service factors across key components, contributing to increased uptime and operational availability throughout its lifecycle.

Like all wind turbines within GE Vernova’s portfolio, the new units manufactured in India will utilize the company’s AI-powered digital blade certification technology. This reflects GE Vernova’s broader commitment to integrating advanced digital tools and artificial intelligence into renewable energy manufacturing and operations to enhance reliability, quality, and performance.
