
LibertyStream Achieves Major Commercial Milestone with First Lithium Carbonate Delivery to U.S. Industrial Customer
LibertyStream Infrastructure Partners Inc. has reached a significant milestone in its commercialization strategy by successfully delivering its first tonne of lithium carbonate to a U.S. industrial customer. The shipment originated from the company’s Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) Unit and Lithium Carbonate Refining Facility located at Select Water Solutions’ operational site in Howard County, Texas, north of Midland.
The delivery fulfills LibertyStream’s previously announced inaugural U.S. commercial order and represents the first customer shipment from the company’s Texas production facility. Produced according to the customer’s specified technical requirements, the lithium carbonate shipment forms part of LibertyStream’s broader customer qualification program and commercial sales strategy, demonstrating the company’s ability to produce and deliver market-ready lithium products from oilfield brine resources.
The milestone highlights the company’s progress in transforming from a technology deployment and demonstration-stage operation into a commercial producer capable of supplying lithium products to industrial markets. It also validates LibertyStream’s integrated extraction and refining model, which is designed to recover lithium from produced water streams generated by oil and gas operations across major U.S. energy-producing regions.
The successful delivery is viewed as an important step toward reducing operational and commercial risks associated with scaling lithium production from unconventional sources. Wylie further stated that LibertyStream continues to manufacture lithium carbonate for a growing group of battery-grade and technical-grade customers. With production activities now underway, the company expects to steadily increase output while expanding customer qualification programs and commercial sales opportunities.
The company has set an ambitious target of reaching an annualized production capability of up to 1,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate by the end of 2026. Achieving this objective would represent a significant increase in production capacity and provide LibertyStream with a stronger foundation for future expansion across additional oilfield basins.
A key component of the company’s growth strategy is its Lithium Carbonate Operating Facility in Texas. LibertyStream completed installation and construction of the facility ahead of schedule in March 2026 and subsequently commenced production from its refining unit. The accelerated construction timeline reflects the company’s efforts to rapidly move from pilot-scale operations toward commercial production.
The refining facility has been engineered with flexibility in mind, enabling the production of both battery-grade and technical-grade lithium carbonate products. This dual-product capability provides LibertyStream with access to multiple market segments while allowing the company to respond to changing customer requirements and market conditions.
Battery-grade lithium carbonate is a critical raw material used in lithium-ion battery manufacturing, supporting applications ranging from electric vehicles to stationary energy storage systems. Technical-grade lithium carbonate serves a variety of industrial applications, including glass manufacturing, ceramics production, lubricants, and specialty chemical processes.
The current facility configuration incorporates operational lessons and engineering improvements derived from LibertyStream’s previous field deployments. By integrating lessons learned from earlier projects, LibertyStream aims to optimize extraction efficiency and product quality while minimizing downtime and operational variability. The delivery of the first tonne of lithium carbonate also demonstrates the effectiveness of the company’s Direct Lithium Extraction technology. Unlike conventional lithium production methods, which often rely on large evaporation ponds and extended processing times, DLE technologies are designed to recover lithium more rapidly and with a potentially smaller environmental footprint.
The approach is particularly attractive in regions such as the Permian Basin, where substantial volumes of produced water are generated as a byproduct of oil and gas production. These produced water streams frequently contain dissolved lithium concentrations that can be economically recovered using advanced extraction technologies.
By utilizing existing oilfield infrastructure and water management systems, LibertyStream seeks to establish a scalable model for domestic lithium production while reducing dependence on imported critical minerals. This strategy aligns with broader efforts across North America to strengthen critical mineral supply chains and support the growth of domestic battery manufacturing industries.
The company views its partnership with Select Water Solutions as an important element of its operational strategy. These basins represent some of the largest oil and gas producing areas in North America and offer significant opportunities for lithium recovery from produced water streams.
The company is also beginning site preparation activities for the construction of its first larger-scale Texas facility. Once completed, the planned operation is expected to support annualized lithium carbonate production of up to 1,000 tonnes by the end of 2026, providing a meaningful step toward establishing a commercially viable domestic lithium supply network.
