Nordex Group Launches Blade Production at New Manufacturing Facility in Türkiye
The Nordex Group has officially commenced production at its newly established rotor blade manufacturing facility in Menemen, İzmir, marking a major step forward in the company’s long-term strategy to expand its industrial footprint and strengthen support for Türkiye’s rapidly growing wind energy market. The launch of operations at the new plant in May 2026 reflects the increasing demand for high-efficiency onshore wind turbines across the region and highlights Türkiye’s growing importance as a strategic hub for renewable energy manufacturing and exports.
Located within the İzmir Free Trade Zone, the state-of-the-art facility has been developed to support both domestic wind energy projects and international demand for advanced rotor blade technology. The site spans approximately 130,000 square metres, including around 90,000 square metres dedicated to production operations. Designed with scalability and efficiency in mind, the factory will be capable of manufacturing up to 1,200 rotor blades annually once it reaches full operational capacity.
The new manufacturing complex is expected to play a significant role in supporting the expansion of Türkiye’s renewable energy sector while also contributing to employment and industrial growth in the region. At full capacity, the facility will operate across four production shifts and employ approximately 1,200 people in manufacturing, engineering, technical services, logistics, and administrative functions. The investment reinforces Nordex’s commitment to localising production capabilities and building a sustainable supply chain ecosystem within Türkiye.
The Menemen facility will manufacture rotor blades for some of the Nordex Group’s latest and most advanced turbine platforms, including the N163 and N175 turbine models. These turbines have been specifically engineered to perform efficiently in medium to strong wind conditions and are designed to deliver higher energy yields, improved operational efficiency, and enhanced reliability for wind farm operators. By producing blades locally, Nordex aims to optimize supply chain operations, reduce transportation timelines, and improve responsiveness to customer demand within the region.
The N163 and N175 turbines are among the company’s flagship onshore wind technologies and are increasingly being deployed in projects that require high-performance solutions capable of maximizing electricity generation under diverse climatic conditions. Their larger rotor diameters allow wind farms to capture more wind energy, increasing overall power output while improving project economics. The decision to manufacture blades for these models in Türkiye demonstrates Nordex’s confidence in the country as a strategic production center for next-generation wind turbine components.
Initially, production at the Menemen plant will focus on supplying rotor blades for projects awarded under Türkiye’s Renewable Energy Resource Area (YEKA) tenders, particularly the YEKA-4 and YEKA-5 programmes. These government-backed initiatives are central to Türkiye’s strategy for expanding renewable energy capacity, strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities, and increasing local content participation in the clean energy sector. By establishing local blade production, Nordex will be better positioned to meet the local content requirements outlined under the YEKA specifications while supporting the country’s renewable energy ambitions.
The YEKA programmes have become a key driver of investment in Türkiye’s wind energy industry, encouraging international turbine manufacturers and suppliers to establish local production facilities and contribute to the development of domestic industrial capabilities. Nordex’s new facility aligns closely with these national objectives and underscores the company’s intention to deepen its long-term presence in the market.
Beyond serving the domestic market, the Menemen blade factory has also been strategically positioned to support export opportunities, particularly across Europe. Nordex plans to use the facility as a manufacturing and logistics hub for supplying rotor blades to international wind energy projects. Türkiye’s geographic location, combined with its expanding renewable energy manufacturing infrastructure, offers significant advantages for serving both regional and European markets.
The ability to export blades from Türkiye is expected to strengthen Nordex’s supply chain resilience and enhance its competitiveness in Europe’s growing wind energy sector. As countries across Europe accelerate renewable energy deployment to meet climate and energy security goals, demand for turbine components and manufacturing capacity continues to rise. The Menemen facility will therefore not only support Türkiye’s renewable energy transition but also contribute to broader European decarbonization efforts.
Commenting on the start of production, José Luis Blanco, Chief Executive Officer of the Nordex Group, described the launch of operations as a significant milestone for the company’s long-term growth strategy in Türkiye. According to Blanco, the investment reflects Nordex’s commitment to expanding its local manufacturing footprint while supporting the development of the national wind industry.
He emphasized that the establishment of the new factory will enhance Nordex’s ability to meet local content requirements under the YEKA framework while strengthening the company’s operational flexibility and supply chain capabilities. Blanco also highlighted the broader economic and industrial benefits of the project, noting that investments in local production help foster employment, technical expertise, and industrial development in the regions where the company operates.
Türkiye has become an increasingly important market for the Nordex Group over the past decade. The company entered the Turkish market in 2009 and has steadily expanded its presence through turbine installations, project partnerships, and local industrial investments. Since 2017, Nordex has maintained a leading position in the country’s wind turbine market, holding an estimated market share of around 34 percent.
This strong market position has been supported by Türkiye’s growing focus on renewable energy development and the country’s significant onshore wind potential. As energy demand continues to rise and policymakers pursue strategies to diversify the energy mix, wind power has emerged as a key pillar of Türkiye’s energy transition agenda. Investments such as the Menemen blade manufacturing facility are expected to play a critical role in supporting this transition while enhancing the country’s industrial and technological capabilities.
The launch of the new facility also comes at a time when the global wind energy industry is experiencing rapid growth and transformation. Increasing demand for renewable electricity, rising climate commitments, and the push for energy independence are driving substantial investments in wind power infrastructure worldwide. Manufacturers are therefore expanding production capacity and localizing supply chains to meet growing market needs and improve operational efficiency.
For Nordex, the Menemen project represents more than just an expansion of manufacturing capacity. It symbolizes the company’s broader commitment to sustainable growth, regional industrial development, and long-term participation in the global energy transition. By combining advanced turbine technology with localized manufacturing and export capabilities, the company aims to strengthen its position in one of the world’s fastest-growing renewable energy sectors.
As production ramps up over the coming months, the Menemen blade facility is expected to become a central component of Nordex’s operations in the region, supporting both domestic renewable energy expansion and international wind power projects. The investment highlights the strategic role Türkiye is increasingly playing in the global renewable energy supply chain and reinforces the country’s emergence as a major manufacturing center for clean energy technologies.
