SolarEdge Technologies has officially announced the commercial launch of its next-generation SolarEdge Nexis residential solar and storage system in Germany. The company, widely recognized as a leader in smart energy technology and solar innovation, unveiled the new platform as part of its ongoing efforts to improve efficiency, scalability, and installation simplicity in the rapidly expanding European residential solar market.

The newly released SolarEdge Nexis system introduces a redesigned architecture that integrates a powerful three-phase inverter, a flexible modular battery system, and advanced home energy management capabilities. With this launch, SolarEdge aims to address growing demand among homeowners for scalable energy storage and higher-capacity rooftop solar installations. Germany has seen a steady increase in residential solar adoption, particularly as households seek greater energy independence, optimize self-consumption of solar power, and mitigate rising electricity costs.

Designed for the Next Generation of Residential Solar

The SolarEdge Nexis system represents a comprehensive redesign of the company’s residential solar and storage platform. The solution combines four core components into a streamlined system designed for both performance and ease of installation. At the center of the system is a new three-phase inverter capable of delivering up to 20 kW of AC output, paired with modular lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery storage and full-home backup capabilities.

One of the standout features of the Nexis platform is its ability to scale storage capacity in small increments. Homeowners can begin with a smaller battery capacity and gradually expand it as their energy needs grow. Storage capacity starts at 4.9 kWh and can scale up to 78.4 kWh per inverter, providing significant flexibility for households with varying energy demands.

This modular approach is particularly suited to the German market, where residential solar installations are trending toward larger rooftop systems and increased storage capacity. As more homeowners integrate electric vehicles, heat pumps, and other energy-intensive technologies into their homes, flexible storage solutions have become increasingly important.

High-Performance Three-Phase Inverter

The Nexis system introduces a newly engineered three-phase inverter that delivers up to 20 kWAC of power. The inverter also supports DC-to-AC oversizing of up to 200 percent, enabling homeowners to install larger solar arrays without sacrificing system efficiency.

Despite its higher power capabilities, the inverter features a significantly smaller physical footprint than previous SolarEdge models. This reduction in size and weight is made possible through the use of advanced Silicon Carbide (SiC) switching technology, which improves overall performance while allowing the system to operate more efficiently.

Silicon Carbide components are increasingly being adopted across the energy sector because of their superior thermal performance and higher switching speeds compared to traditional silicon components. In the Nexis system, the use of SiC switches allows the inverter to deliver greater power density while reducing overall system weight.

According to SolarEdge, the new inverter design can achieve up to 20 percent higher efficiency at low power levels compared with leading competitors in the European market. This is particularly beneficial during periods of lower solar generation, such as early morning or late afternoon, when maintaining system efficiency is critical for maximizing energy output.

Faster Installation and Commissioning

Another key objective behind the Nexis system design was to simplify installation for solar professionals. SolarEdge has integrated several external components directly into the inverter platform, including DC surge protection and a built-in antenna. By consolidating these components into the core hardware, installers can significantly reduce the number of additional parts required during installation.

As a result, commissioning times have been dramatically reduced. SolarEdge reports that the entire Nexis system can now be installed and commissioned in under 30 minutes, compared with several hours required for previous systems. The platform also includes a redesigned installer interface and advanced software tools that streamline system configuration and monitoring.

The simplified installation process is expected to help solar installers improve productivity and reduce labor costs, which remain one of the largest cost components in residential solar projects.

Single SKU Platform Simplifies Product Selection

SolarEdge has also introduced a new Single SKU concept for the Nexis platform. Instead of offering multiple inverter models with different power ratings, the company now provides a single inverter model capable of supporting installations up to 20 kW.

This consolidation allows installers and distributors to simplify inventory management while also making it easier to select the appropriate system for each project. By reducing product complexity, SolarEdge aims to improve supply chain efficiency and accelerate deployment of residential solar systems.

The Nexis platform also integrates seamlessly with the MySolarEdge mobile application, which uses AI-driven analytics to help homeowners manage energy production and consumption. Through the app, users can coordinate the operation of EV chargers, smart home devices, and battery storage to maximize solar self-consumption.

Modular Storage with “Lego-Like” Battery Design

A major innovation within the Nexis system is its new modular battery architecture. Each battery block provides 4.9 kWh of storage capacity, and multiple blocks can be stacked together to form a battery stack delivering up to 19.6 kWh.

Up to four battery stacks can be connected to a single inverter, enabling total system storage capacity of 78.4 kWh. This scalable design allows homeowners to expand storage capacity as their needs evolve without requiring major system modifications.

SolarEdge describes the battery system as having a “Lego-like” modular design, featuring a Simple-Click™ architecture that allows installers to connect battery blocks quickly without complex wiring. Each lightweight block simply clicks into place, dramatically reducing installation time.

This design also enhances system flexibility. Homeowners can begin with a smaller battery system and add additional blocks later as energy consumption increases—for example after purchasing an electric vehicle or installing additional solar panels.

Advanced Battery Optimization Technology

The Nexis system also incorporates SolarEdge’s newly developed Battery Optimizer technology. This feature improves overall efficiency by intelligently activating a single battery block at a time when energy demand is low. By doing so, the system minimizes energy losses that typically occur when multiple battery modules operate simultaneously at low load levels.

The optimizer also continuously balances the state of charge across all battery blocks. This ensures that energy is distributed evenly throughout the system, extending battery lifespan and maintaining consistent performance.

In addition, each battery block can be independently monitored and managed. If an issue occurs within one module, the system can isolate that block while allowing the rest of the battery system to continue operating. This design improves system resilience and reliability.

Full-Home Backup Capability

Energy security has become a growing priority for homeowners across Europe, particularly in markets like Germany where grid reliability concerns and rising electricity costs are driving increased interest in energy storage.

The Nexis system addresses this demand by offering full-home backup functionality. When connected to the SolarEdge Home Backup Interface, the system can provide up to 20 kW of backup power per inverter using two battery stacks.

This capability allows households to continue operating essential appliances, lighting, and other critical systems during grid outages. The backup system can automatically activate when a power interruption occurs, ensuring uninterrupted energy supply.

Installer Feedback Highlights Simplicity

Early feedback from installers has been highly positive. Tom Glauner, Director of Renewable Energy at German installation company Elektro Ostkamp, recently installed a Nexis system in his own home and described the experience as transformative.

According to Glauner, the installation process was dramatically faster and simpler compared with previous residential solar systems. With only four main components and easy-to-connect battery modules, installers can deploy advanced solar and storage systems without the complexity typically associated with optimized energy platforms.

He noted that the simplified installation allows installers to deliver sophisticated solar and storage solutions while maintaining the speed and efficiency commonly associated with simpler, non-optimized systems.
