Energy Vault Enters Swiss Market with B-VAULT™ Contracts

Energy Vault Expands into Switzerland with FlexGrid Launch and B-VAULT™ Deployment Agreements

Energy Vault Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: NRGV), a recognized global leader in advanced grid-scale energy storage technologies, has officially entered the Swiss market with the introduction of FlexGrid — a newly configured solution built on the company’s proven B-VAULT™ battery energy storage system (BESS) platform. Tailored specifically for commercial, industrial (C&I), and small-utility customers, FlexGrid supports power capacities from 2 MW to 25 MW, enabling flexible deployment across sites that demand reliability, compact design, and regulatory compliance.

The launch is underpinned by two significant agreements with Schindler Group and Energie Wettingen AG, marking a strategic step in Energy Vault’s vision of building distributed, community-integrated energy storage networks across Switzerland and the broader European region. These projects not only demonstrate the adaptability of the technology but reinforce Energy Vault’s role in supporting the energy transition with solutions that complement local sustainability and grid resilience goals.

A New Platform for Europe’s Evolving Energy Landscape

Gianmarco Zorloni, Director of Business Development at Energy Vault, emphasized the importance of FlexGrid as a strategic product for Europe. He noted that the platform is compact, modular, and quick to install, reducing deployment challenges in dense urban and semi-urban areas where permitting and noise concerns traditionally restrict large-scale energy storage.

According to Zorloni, the Schindler and Energie Wettingen projects serve as representative examples of the flexibility built into the B-VAULT FlexGrid solution. The technology can be configured to meet industrial-grade performance requirements while ensuring minimal community disruption — an essential element for Europe, where population density and strict regulatory conditions demand innovative system design. The product brings together operational intelligence, safety engineering, and a streamlined footprint to deliver next-gen distributed energy infrastructure.

First Swiss Project: Schindler Group Headquarters, Ebikon

Energy Vault has already completed its first Swiss installation — a 2 MW / 2-hour B-VAULT FlexGrid system deployed at Schindler Group’s global headquarters in Ebikon, Canton of Lucerne. The site previously functioned as a fire service depot and has now been repurposed into a modern energy storage facility, directly supporting Schindler’s corporate decarbonization ambitions.

The project is notable not only for its industrial capabilities but also its proximity to residential areas — just 30 meters from nearby homes. This exemplifies the company’s ability to safely integrate energy storage into developed communities without compromising environmental or acoustic standards.

The system includes specially engineered acoustic silencers and a noise-optimized layout that ensures operations remain within even the strictest Swiss noise regulations. Beyond supporting Schindler’s internal energy needs, the installation provides reactive power compensation and voltage stabilization that benefit the broader local grid.

Energy Vault delivered the installation rapidly — completing engineering, delivery, commissioning, and Swissgrid qualification in fewer than 30 days. A 10-year service and maintenance agreement ensures stable long-term performance and provides Schindler with ongoing operational support.

Herbert Stadelmann, Head of Real Estate & Facility Management at Schindler Aufzüge, stated that Energy Vault’s technology checked every requirement from safety to sustainability. He highlighted the seamless integration with on-site solar generation and the quiet operation as pivotal benefits for an industrial site located within a mixed-use community.

Second Swiss Project: Energie Wettingen AG, A High-Density System for Municipal Reliability

Building on the momentum from the Ebikon deployment, Energy Vault has signed an additional supply agreement with Energie Wettingen AG, a municipal utility located northwest of Zurich. The project will deploy an 8 MW / 2-hour FlexGrid system — double the power output of the Schindler installation — using a compact stacked configuration.

The innovative two-level system achieves its full design capacity on a footprint of less than 50 square meters, a major advantage for utilities operating in land-constrained environments. Coupled with Energy Vault’s VaultOS™ energy management software, the site will support Swissgrid services including frequency regulation, peak-shaving, and local grid optimization.

Louis Lutz, CEO of Energie Wettingen AG, said the company selected FlexGrid based on its modularity, maturity, and integration capabilities. The utility sees the project as an essential investment in local reliability and long-term energy security.

Participation in CKW Flexpool: Enhancing National Flexibility

Both Swiss projects will participate in the CKW Flexpool platform — Switzerland’s largest and most sophisticated flexibility aggregation network. Operated by CKW Group under Axpo Group, the Flexpool connects over 1,700 distributed assets and more than 1,000 MW of total flexible capacity nationwide.

Energy Vault collaborated with CKW to test and validate the real-time interface between Flexpool and VaultOS™, ensuring seamless operational visibility, automated control, and continuous data synchronization for participation in Swissgrid ancillary service markets.

A Foundation for Continued European Expansion

To ensure efficient deployment and long-term support across the region, Energy Vault is establishing a new service and logistics hub in Central Switzerland. This center will anchor the company’s presence across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), supporting rapid system delivery, operations, and maintenance.

Energy Vault’s Swiss strategy emphasizes:

  • Short development and installation cycles
  • Compact, flexible project designs
  • Recurring long-term service contracts
  • Community-friendly infrastructure integration

With more than 2 GWh of B-VAULT systems deployed or under contract globally, spanning North America, Europe, and Asia, the company continues to expand its suite of solutions — from battery storage to gravity storage and hydrogen-based long-duration platforms — to support the world’s shift toward clean, resilient energy systems.
