Factorial Launches 40Ah All-Solid-State Battery Cells with Dry Coating Technology

Factorial Inc., a leader in solid-state battery technology, announced today the successful scaling of its Solstice™ all-solid-state battery cells to a 40Ah capacity. These A-sample cells, designed for automotive applications, are produced using an innovative dry cathode coating process, showcasing the impressive energy density the company unveiled in September. This achievement marks a key step toward making the technology available for various electric mobility industries.

The new 100% dry cathode process eliminates the use of hazardous solvents in cathode coating, which are both carcinogenic and energy-intensive to recycle. In addition to eliminating solvents, the Solstice™ cells’ all-solid-state design removes the need for the energy-consuming formation process typically required in lithium-ion battery manufacturing. By combining dry coating with solid-state chemistry, Factorial reduces operating costs, lowers energy consumption, and minimizes the environmental impact of battery production.

Factorial developed the 40Ah Solstice™ cells at its advanced development center in Massachusetts, using custom equipment to establish an in-house dry cathode coating process. Early lifecycle testing indicates that smaller prototypes have already achieved over 2,000 charge cycles.
