Anaergia Inc. (“Anaergia”, the “Company”, “us”, or “our”), through its subsidiary Anaergia S.r.l., has reached a major milestone in its European expansion efforts by finalizing a contract with Techbau S.p.A. (“Techbau”) for the construction of five state-of-the-art biomethane plants across Southern Italy. Techbau, a premier Italian engineering and construction firm known for its expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects, will serve as the general contractor responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) aspects of these facilities. Meanwhile, Anaergia S.r.l. will provide advanced equipment and technology essential for the biomethane production process.

A Major Step Towards Renewable Energy Expansion in Italy

This agreement, officially announced on January 14, 2025, follows a previously disclosed Binding Agreement between Anaergia and Techbau, cementing the commitment to delivering these essential renewable energy facilities. The project represents a significant stride in Italy’s ongoing efforts to enhance its renewable energy capacity and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. By leveraging Anaergia’s cutting-edge anaerobic digestion technologies, these plants will convert agricultural and food processing waste into renewable biomethane, supporting Italy’s national sustainability objectives and broader European Union (EU) climate targets.

Italy has set ambitious goals to decarbonize its energy sector, particularly by increasing the production and utilization of renewable gases such as biomethane. This volume of renewable gas will be injected directly into Italy’s national gas grid, reinforcing the country’s ability to integrate more sustainable energy sources into its existing infrastructure. By mid-2026, when all five plants are expected to be fully operational, they will provide a substantial contribution to Italy’s energy transition efforts while helping to mitigate waste-related environmental issues.

Anaergia anticipates significant financial returns from this initiative, with revenue recognition exceeding C$27 million. This contract further strengthens Anaergia’s footprint in the European renewable energy sector, positioning the company as a key player in the biomethane industry.
