WSPA Names Jim Stanley Director of Media Relations
The Western States Petroleum Association (WSPA) proudly announces the addition of Jim Stanley as its new Director of Media Relations. In this leadership role, Stanley will spearhead WSPA’s media outreach efforts and manage its public messaging strategies across the five states the association represents—Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. His primary focus will be on emphasizing the critical role of an affordable and dependable fuel supply in supporting economic vitality, job creation, and community wellbeing throughout the West.
“I’m honored to join WSPA and help tell the story of the people and industries that keep the West moving,” said Stanley. “From powering job sites and transporting goods to supporting everyday family needs, reliable fuel is essential. The workers who produce, deliver, and depend on that fuel deserve recognition and a voice in policy conversations that determine the future of our energy landscape. I am excited to ensure their perspectives are heard loud and clear.”
Stanley brings with him nearly 15 years of high-level experience in political communications, strategic public affairs, and media relations. Prior to joining WSPA, he served as the Communications Director for the California State Assembly Republican Caucus, where he was responsible for managing all external communications, developing rapid response strategies, and advising lawmakers on navigating complex policy debates.
His professional background also includes senior roles at the National Republican Congressional Committee, where he contributed to large-scale, multimillion-dollar national political campaigns. Over the course of his career, he has built expertise on a broad range of issues, including energy policy, public safety, affordability, and regulatory reform. In 2024, Capitol Weekly recognized Stanley as one of the “Capitol’s Best Press Reps,” highlighting his reputation for effective and impactful communication.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jim Stanley to the WSPA team as we continue to advocate for balanced, thoughtful energy solutions across the West,” said Catherine Reheis-Boyd, WSPA President and CEO. “Jim’s proven track record of successful public engagement and his deep understanding of complex policy matters will be invaluable assets. His leadership will help ensure that both the public and policymakers fully appreciate the value of affordable, reliable energy and the dedicated workforce that makes it all possible.”
