CRH Builds Wind Farm to Power Romanian Cement Plant

CRH (NYSE: CRH), a leading building materials solutions provider, has launched Romania’s first wind farm dedicated to powering a cement plant. This renewable energy project will supply a significant portion of the Medgidia Cement Plant’s electricity needs, reducing its carbon footprint and supporting Romania’s transition to clean energy.

Eunice Heath, CRH’s Chief Sustainability Officer, highlighted the project’s impact: “This clean energy initiative exemplifies our commitment to decarbonization and delivering low-carbon building materials to support the evolving construction industry.”

CRH is committed to clean energy investments to lower its carbon emissions. By utilizing renewable sources like wind and solar and generating on-site power, CRH is advancing its goal to cut absolute carbon emissions by 30% by 2030. The wind farm, operational since August 2023, features five turbines with a combined capacity of 30 MW and will produce approximately 80 GWh annually, reducing Romania’s CO2 emissions by 40,000 tons.
