Eni and SERI Industrial, a key player in the energy storage sector, have entered into an agreement to explore the development of the industrial chain for lithium-iron-phosphate electrochemical batteries. These batteries will be used for energy storage systems (ESS) and in industrial and commercial electric mobility applications.
The agreement paves the way for both companies to consider establishing a joint venture to construct a stationary energy storage production facility at Eni’s site in Brindisi. This facility will include a production line for active materials and a battery recycling line, complementing a similar plant being developed by FIB, a SERI Industrial subsidiary, in Caserta.
SERI Industrial’s facility in Caserta will collaborate on research and development, procurement, and commercial activities.
This initiative represents a significant step towards industrial development, especially in Italy’s southern regions. It aligns with the goal of creating a sustainable energy system, leveraging SERI Industrial’s battery expertise and Eni’s capability to advance technological solutions for decarbonization.
Stationary batteries play a crucial role in enhancing the electricity grid, addressing the inherent limitations of renewable energy sources, and supporting their integration.
If all conditions are successfully negotiated and tested, the arrangement could evolve into binding agreements. This would strengthen SERI Industrial’s position within the battery value chain and allow Eni to launch a new initiative aimed at industrial transformation to facilitate the energy transition.
