American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP) has appointed Matthew Fransen as Senior Vice President, Finance and Treasurer, effective Dec. 1. Fransen will take over from Julie Sherwood, who is retiring after a 20-year career with the company. In his new role, Fransen will report to Chuck Zebula, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
Fransen’s responsibilities will include overseeing AEP’s finance and treasury operations, managing relationships with banks, investors, and rating agencies, handling cash flow management and forecasting, developing capitalization strategies, and monitoring key credit metrics. Additionally, he will oversee AEP’s trusts, investments, and corporate risk management, including market, credit, and insurance risks.
“AEP’s commitment to a modern, reliable energy system that provides value and affordability to customers relies on strong capital market relationships,” said Zebula. “Matt’s financial expertise and strategic insight will be invaluable as we increase capital investments to support growth both locally and nationwide.”
Zebula also acknowledged Sherwood’s contributions, saying, “Julie has been instrumental in managing our cash flow strategy and strengthening our relationships with capital market stakeholders. Her leadership has significantly impacted our ability to make investments that shape the future of energy.”
