A new TV ad campaign launched today highlights how California’s policies frequently force families to choose between energy costs and other household expenses. Created by the Western States Petroleum Association (WSPA), the ad will run statewide and is supported by a social media push directing viewers to BetterWayforAll.org.
“Addressing the everyday needs of people should be central to energy and climate policies, but too many politicians overlook the burdens their laws place on families,” said Catherine Reheis-Boyd, president and CEO of the Western States Petroleum Association (WSPA). “Californians shouldn’t feel ignored while costly regulations are imposed. We all want to protect the climate, but solutions must be equitable and accessible to everyone, not just the wealthy.”
State lawmakers are invited to review the full survey results, and Californians are encouraged to engage at BetterWayforAll.org. The poll, conducted by Probolsky Research, reveals that 84% of Californians believe politicians fail to consider how their policies impact families. The survey, which included responses from 900 California adults, has a sampling error of +/-3.3 percent at the 95 percent confidence level. Key findings include:
- 84% of Californians feel overlooked by politicians, with this view shared across party lines, age groups, genders, ethnicities, and education levels.
- 75% believe environmental goals should not take precedence over the basic needs of American families.
- 71% are concerned about the economic impact of California’s climate goals.
- 70% worry about how these climate goals will affect their daily lives.
“We believe there is a better way, and we should all contribute to finding it. Our energy future must be inclusive and innovative, encompassing all types of energy from solar and wind to cleaner fuels,” Reheis-Boyd added. “Our climate laws must ensure that our future energy is beneficial for everyone. We are committed to this message and to fostering a more inclusive dialogue on advancing our energy policies.”
