The Wytheville facility is expected to play a major role in expanding JST’s ability to supply critical transformer equipment at a time when power infrastructure demand is increasing across multiple sectors. Located within Fairview Industrial Park in Wytheville, the new campus has been specifically designed to support the manufacturing of liquid-filled pad-mounted transformers. Production at the facility will include both single-phase and three-phase transformer units ranging from 25 kVA to 6,000 kVA with voltage classes up to 35 kV. These products are widely used by electric utilities, renewable energy developers, commercial facilities, industrial plants, and data center operators seeking dependable medium-voltage distribution solutions.
JST said the facility is being launched with an initial production target of approximately 150 transformer units during 2026. The company plans to significantly expand output beginning in 2027, when annual production capacity is expected to scale to roughly 1,000 units. This planned ramp-up is intended to support both immediate customer demand and anticipated long-term market growth across North America.
The opening reflects JST’s broader strategy of manufacturing closer to customers in key regional markets. The new campus spans approximately 45,000 square feet across two separate buildings. JST said the facility will provide an environment where customers can work closely with engineering and production teams during various phases of equipment design, testing, and project execution.
A major feature of the facility will be its support for localized factory acceptance testing, commonly referred to as FAT. This process allows customers to verify transformer performance and specifications before equipment is shipped to project sites. By providing FAT services within the United States, JST aims to improve project coordination, shorten deployment timelines, and offer customers greater visibility throughout manufacturing and commissioning activities.
The company also expects the new operation to contribute to economic development and workforce growth in southwest Virginia. JST plans to initially employ between 25 and 30 manufacturing workers at the facility, along with an additional 10 to 20 engineering, administrative, and office personnel. The workforce is expected to expand further as production volumes increase over the next several years.
