Oklo and Blykalla Join Forces to Fast-Track Advanced Reactor Commercialization

Oklo and Blykalla Forge Transatlantic Alliance to Accelerate Advanced Reactor Commercialization

U.S.-based Oklo Inc. (NYSE: OKLO) and Swedish nuclear technology innovator Blykalla AB have announced a strategic partnership designed to advance the commercialization of advanced nuclear reactors through collaborative technology development, supply chain coordination, and regulatory knowledge-sharing. This transatlantic alliance represents one of the first partnerships of its kind in the fast-growing advanced nuclear sector, signaling a new era of global cooperation in next-generation energy solutions.

As part of the agreement, Oklo will co-lead Blykalla’s upcoming investment round with an approximately $5 million commitment. This financial contribution strengthens the collaboration and reflects a shared vision to accelerate deployment timelines for advanced nuclear reactors, while also creating opportunities for joint technology innovation and operational efficiencies.

Joint Technology Development and Knowledge Sharing

Central to the partnership is a Joint Technology Development Agreement that establishes a framework for Oklo and Blykalla to exchange expertise and best practices across multiple areas of reactor development. This includes insights on advanced materials, reactor components, non-nuclear supply chain sourcing, fuel fabrication, and regulatory compliance. By pooling their knowledge, the companies aim to reduce project risks, optimize timelines, and lower costs for both developers.

This collaboration goes beyond typical partnerships, aligning efforts across continents to ensure that lessons learned in the U.S. and Europe can benefit both companies. Sharing regulatory insights is particularly valuable given the complex and region-specific licensing requirements for advanced reactors. By understanding the nuances of each other’s regulatory environments, Oklo and Blykalla can streamline certification processes and anticipate challenges before they arise.

Strengthening the Global Advanced Nuclear Ecosystem

The partnership underscores the potential for transatlantic cooperation in the advanced reactor sector. As global demand for clean, reliable energy continues to grow, fast reactor developers in Europe and the U.S. are exploring ways to collaborate on common challenges, including fuel production, component sourcing, and regulatory compliance. By working together, Oklo and Blykalla aim to accelerate commercialization while maintaining rigorous safety and operational standards.

“This partnership strengthens the growing advanced reactor ecosystem in the face of unprecedented global demand for power,” said Jacob DeWitte, co-founder and CEO of Oklo. “By teaming up on suppliers, materials data, and licensing insights, we can shorten critical paths to deployment and stay focused on delivering reliable, clean power to customers. We recognize that in this rapidly evolving sector, cooperation yields more benefits than competition.”

Coordinated Supply Chains and Component Sharing

One of the practical aspects of the collaboration involves shared supplier networks for reactor-agnostic equipment, which can help both companies improve component availability, reduce lead times, and lower costs. Oklo may supply select components directly to Blykalla, creating a vertically integrated, potentially cross-border supply chain. The arrangement also allows for the sharing of fuel fabrication capabilities, providing Blykalla with access to Oklo’s advanced fuel technologies.

In addition to supply chain integration, the companies will pursue joint research and development efforts and regulatory analyses aimed at increasing system reliability and lowering lifecycle costs. Importantly, these initiatives are designed to enhance performance without necessitating changes to existing reactor designs, ensuring that both firms can focus on rapid deployment and commercialization.

“Oklo and Blykalla share a practical, industrial approach to bringing advanced fission to market,” said Jacob Stedman, CEO of Blykalla. “Coordinated component sourcing and targeted joint R&D can unlock efficiencies for both companies and help our suppliers plan for scale, regardless of which side of the Atlantic they are on.”

Advanced Reactor Designs and Commercial Goals

Blykalla is currently developing the SEALER (Swedish Advanced Lead Reactor), a passively safe, highly compact 55 MWe lead-cooled fast reactor. The design leverages over 25 years of research and aims to provide safe, reliable, and scalable nuclear power for a variety of industrial applications. Blykalla’s SEALER reactor is currently in the process of raising its A2 investment round, which Oklo is co-leading.

Meanwhile, Oklo is focused on sodium-cooled fast reactors capable of producing up to 75 MWe. These reactors are designed for deployment at U.S. industrial sites, defense installations, and data centers, offering modular, clean energy solutions that can be rapidly scaled to meet emerging power demands. By collaborating with Blykalla, Oklo can extend the benefits of its technological innovations while learning from Blykalla’s extensive experience with lead-cooled reactor technology.

Accelerating Global Commercialization

By linking their efforts across the U.S. and Europe, Oklo and Blykalla are setting an example of how advanced nuclear developers can align strategies in fuel production, supply chain management, and regulatory engagement to expedite the commercialization of next-generation reactors. The collaboration is a direct response to the urgent global need for low-carbon, reliable energy solutions, emphasizing that advanced nuclear technology will play a critical role in the clean energy transition.

The partnership also reflects a shared commitment to delivering dependable power for industry, data centers, and future electrification initiatives. By harmonizing approaches to research, development, and supply chain management, the two companies are demonstrating that cross-border cooperation can reduce costs, accelerate deployment, and enhance technological readiness.

Expanding Strategic Alliances

Oklo’s approach to strategic partnerships extends beyond this collaboration with Blykalla. The company has previously established international and domestic agreements with leading technology and energy firms, including Siemens, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Liberty Energy, and ABB. These alliances ensure access to state-of-the-art turbines, control systems, and grid integration solutions, further strengthening Oklo’s advanced reactor ecosystem.

Through these relationships, Oklo aims to integrate best-in-class technologies into its reactors, maintain rigorous safety standards, and support efficient grid integration. The collaboration with Blykalla represents a continuation of this strategy, providing additional avenues for joint innovation and cross-border cooperation.

Oklo Inc. is at the forefront of developing fast fission power plants to provide clean, reliable, and affordable energy at scale. The company is establishing a domestic supply chain for critical radioisotopes, advancing nuclear fuel recycling technologies, and exploring ways to convert nuclear waste into usable energy. Oklo was the first company to receive a site use permit from the U.S. Department of Energy for a commercial advanced fission plant and was awarded fuel from the Idaho National Laboratory. Additionally, Oklo submitted the first custom combined license application for an advanced reactor to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The company is also advancing fuel recycling initiatives in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy and national laboratories.

Blykalla AB is a Swedish developer of lead-cooled fast reactors, focused on delivering passively safe, compact nuclear power solutions. Its SEALER reactor leverages decades of research to provide reliable, scalable, and industrial-grade nuclear energy. The company is currently raising its A2 investment round and pursuing commercialization strategies that align with global clean energy goals.

As the world seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and meet growing energy demand, partnerships like the one between Oklo and Blykalla illustrate the potential for collaboration to accelerate the deployment of advanced nuclear technology. By combining resources, expertise, and strategic vision, these companies are positioning themselves at the forefront of the next generation of nuclear energy, demonstrating that transatlantic cooperation can be a catalyst for innovation, efficiency, and global impact.

Through this partnership, Oklo and Blykalla are not only advancing the technology of fast reactors but also pioneering a model for how advanced nuclear developers can work together internationally to meet the energy challenges of the 21st century.
