The Nuclear Company Appoints Mike Marty as Vice President of Security, Strengthening Commitment to Safety and Modern Nuclear Deployment
The Nuclear Company, a pioneering force in the modernization of nuclear construction and the gigawatt-scale deployment of nuclear power across the United States, has announced a key addition to its leadership team. The company confirmed the appointment of Mike Marty as Vice President, Security, underscoring its commitment to building not only the most advanced but also the safest and most secure nuclear operations in the world.
Marty is a decorated U.S. Marine Corps veteran and global security leader with more than two decades of experience overseeing security at some of the world’s most complex industrial and technological operations. His career includes high-profile roles at Tesla, Redwood Materials, and in law enforcement, as well as ongoing contributions to nonprofit work assisting rural investigative agencies.
Building Security Foundations at Tesla’s Gigafactories
Marty gained international recognition during his tenure at Tesla, where he was responsible for protecting the company’s vast Gigafactory network. These facilities represent some of the largest and most sophisticated industrial manufacturing hubs ever constructed, with billions of dollars invested in infrastructure and technology. At Tesla, Marty built and managed teams comprising thousands of professionals across multiple continents. He developed and implemented global investigative programs and designed comprehensive security plans and protocols that were adopted as standards across multiple Gigafactory sites, including Berlin and Texas.
His work required a delicate balance of physical and cyber security measures. By safeguarding intellectual property, coordinating with law enforcement, and preventing potential disruptions, Marty ensured that Tesla’s manufacturing expansion proceeded with resilience and reliability. His leadership during this period is widely regarded as instrumental in Tesla’s ability to scale its operations rapidly while maintaining the integrity of its facilities.
Advancing Supply Chain Security at Redwood Materials
In 2021, Marty joined Redwood Materials, an advanced manufacturing company founded by Tesla co-founder JB Straubel. Redwood’s mission to establish a robust American electric battery supply chain has been central to U.S. efforts to reduce reliance on foreign materials and strengthen domestic clean energy infrastructure.
As Director of Security at Redwood Materials, Marty designed and implemented physical and cyber security programs across North America, Asia, and Europe. His experience in both corporate and national security equipped him to develop protective measures for sensitive materials, technologies, and operations in a globally competitive and strategically vital sector. His ability to secure rapidly expanding operations across multiple geographies made him an invaluable leader in an industry racing to meet growing energy demands.
A Strategic Addition to The Nuclear Company
“The Nuclear Company is determined to change the trajectory of nuclear power in America by making it faster, safer, and more cost-effective to build nuclear plants,” said Jonathan Webb, Co-founder and CEO of The Nuclear Company. “Mike Marty is one of the most capable and battle-tested security leaders in the world. He has protected some of the largest infrastructure projects in history, and his leadership sends the unmistakable message that our company will prioritize safety and security above all else. His expertise, combined with our partnership with Palantir, ensures that we are creating the most secure nuclear deployment platform in existence.”
This appointment comes at a time when nuclear power is increasingly recognized as critical to achieving net-zero energy goals. While nuclear plants provide firm, clean baseload power unmatched by intermittent renewable sources, the industry has long faced challenges in construction delays and cost overruns. The Nuclear Company is working to change that by integrating advanced digital technologies into nuclear deployment.
Leveraging AI for Nuclear Construction
Central to The Nuclear Company’s strategy is its development of NOS (Nuclear Operating System), the first AI-driven software platform designed specifically for nuclear construction. Built in partnership with Palantir, NOS aims to transform the building of nuclear reactors into a predictable, data-driven process. By replacing outdated construction models with advanced analytics and AI, NOS is designed to ensure nuclear plants can be built faster, safer, and at lower cost.
With Marty’s security expertise, The Nuclear Company is aligning physical protection with digital resilience, ensuring that both nuclear facilities and the software systems supporting their deployment remain highly secure against physical and cyber threats. This integration is essential in an era where critical infrastructure faces not only traditional safety risks but also increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks.
A Distinguished Career in Service and Security
Before entering the private sector, Marty served in law enforcement, including homicide investigations with state and local agencies in California and Nevada. His work in Nevada earned him recognition as State Detective of the Year in 2015. These roles gave him deep experience in investigative leadership, crisis management, and public safety.
His public service began in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served for seven years before an honorable discharge in 2002 due to injury. As a First Lieutenant, Marty commanded a unit of 235 personnel and received a meritorious award for leadership. The discipline, leadership skills, and resilience he demonstrated in military service remain central to his professional identity and continue to influence his approach to organizational security.
Reflecting on his new role, Marty expressed his motivation and sense of purpose: “I have dedicated my life to protecting people and organizations in high-stakes environments. The Nuclear Company is carrying out one of the most ambitious missions in American history. I am proud to join this team to protect our people, communities, and projects.”
