Woodside Awards Major Contract to Winyama Contracting Group

Woodside (Woodside Burrup Pty Ltd.) has awarded its largest-ever Traditional Owner construction contract to Winyama Contracting Group, a Karratha-based company, for civil works on the Pluto Train 1 Modifications project.

Winyama Contracting Group will collaborate with Kellogg Brown & Root Pty Ltd, Woodside’s Engineering Procurement and Construction Management contractor for the project. The award was made following a competitive bidding process, with key criteria including experience, local content, and health, safety, and environmental (HSE) performance.

This contract will boost Winyama Contracting Group’s business capabilities and create more opportunities for Indigenous participation through employment and training programs.

Woodside Pluto Expansion Project Manager Paul Baker expressed excitement about partnering with Winyama Contracting Group. “By working with a local, Indigenous-led contractor, we are not only securing vital services for the Pluto Train 1 modifications but also contributing to the local economy. This contract will help grow Winyama Contracting Group, enabling them to expand their service capacity for other industries in the Pilbara,” he said.

Since the start of the Scarborough Energy Project, Woodside has awarded over A$3.6 billion in contracts to Western Australian businesses, including an investment of approximately A$115 million with Karratha-based companies.

Arthur Ramirez, Chairman and Indigenous Business Manager of Winyama Contracting Group, called the new agreement with Woodside a major milestone. “This project will enable us to grow by about 65 new employees, most of whom will be local,” he said.

He added that participating in the Pluto Train 1 Modifications project aligns with Winyama Contracting Group’s vision to expand its regional presence and enhance outcomes for Aboriginal communities through its Reflection Reconciliation Action Plan.
