Voltera, a leader in zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) charging infrastructure, has announced the acquisition of two new development sites, expanding its portfolio to 22 locations across key transit hubs in California, Texas, Georgia, Arizona, and Florida. This growth reflects Voltera’s commitment to meeting the rising demand for sustainable transportation solutions in the U.S.
The first site is a 0.85-acre parcel located at 1707 East Pacific Coast Highway in Wilmington, CA, just four miles from the Port of Long Beach and five miles from the Port of Los Angeles. This location is ideal for supporting the region’s drayage operations and can accommodate up to 30 electrified stalls, backed by a power supply of up to five megawatts from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. The site has also received an exemption from the local truck use moratorium, facilitating operations. Additionally, it has secured $4.1 million in grants from the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s Carl Moyer Program and the Federal Highway Administration’s Reduction of Truck Emissions at Port Facilities Program.
The second site, spanning 2.75 acres at 3755 Industrial Boulevard in West Sacramento, CA, is conveniently located near the I-5 and I-80 highways. It can support up to 100 electrified charging stalls and has a secured power supply of one megawatt.
“Acquiring these two sites is a significant advancement in our mission to electrify commercial fleets,” said Sylvia Hendron, Chief Development Officer at Voltera. “These locations have been strategically selected to cater to the specific needs of ZEV fleets, ensuring proximity to essential transit routes and necessary funding.”
Voltera Chairman Brett Hauser emphasized the company’s commitment to navigating the complexities of site development to expedite the deployment of zero-emission fleet infrastructure across the U.S. With strong backing from infrastructure investor EQT, Voltera actively pursues site acquisitions to accelerate project timelines and deliver power more efficiently to ZEV fleet customers.
In 2023, Voltera evaluated over 1,200 sites, showcasing its ability to overcome the challenges of identifying prime real estate for ZEV infrastructure. Dawn Fenton, Board Chairperson of Powering America’s Commercial Transportation, highlighted the importance of strategic charging infrastructure placement for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, noting its crucial role in facilitating a sustainable energy transition in the trucking sector.
