Trilliant, a leading provider of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), smart grid, smart cities, and IIoT solutions, has formed a partnership with Sense, a pioneer in embedded intelligence that revolutionizes the connection between individuals, homes, and the grid. This collaboration aims to assist utilities in efficiently deploying edge analytics on a large scale across North America.
As part of the partnership, Trilliant will incorporate Sense’s grid edge technology into its AMI metering solutions, enhancing efficiency and analytics capabilities for both utilities and consumers. This integration allows for sampling rates of up to 1 MHz, enabling the processing of nearly one billion times more data compared to the traditional 15-minute interval data from first-generation smart meters.
By leveraging high-resolution waveform data, Sense’s software can identify household devices by their unique electrical signatures through smart meters. This technology also facilitates integration with other smart home devices, providing users with improved control and automation options. Consequently, consumers can monitor and track their energy consumption in real-time, gain insights into their electricity costs, and manage their usage more effectively.
Furthermore, the enhanced data capability allows for the detection and localization of grid anomalies, particularly in areas close to homes, where operators have typically lacked visibility.
“Sense’s technology empowers utilities to help consumers better manage their energy usage, and we are excited about the positive impact this partnership will have for our customers,” stated Greg Myers, Vice President of Global Product Management at Trilliant. “This collaboration aligns perfectly with Trilliant’s ‘Discover the Power of Choice’ value proposition, as we continue to develop innovative technologies, applications, and services.”
Sense CEO Mike Phillips added, “There is increasing recognition within the industry that next-generation meters can play a crucial role in the energy transition. By integrating high-resolution data, edge computing, and real-time networking, we can transform meters from simple data collection tools into advanced distributed sensing and control platforms for the future grid. Trilliant is an ideal strategic partner for us in the AMI space, and together we can enhance real-time consumer experiences and improve grid visibility. Our disaggregation and distributed intelligence technology is vital for energy consumption decision-making for both utilities and consumers.”
