
RWE Expands Renewable Energy Partnership with ASML Through Long-Term Wind Power Agreement
RWE, one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies and a prominent participant in global energy trading, has announced the expansion of its long-term collaboration with ASML, the world’s foremost supplier of advanced lithography systems used in semiconductor manufacturing. The strengthened partnership reflects a shared commitment to accelerating the transition toward clean energy while supporting the rapidly increasing electricity demand associated with digitalization and high-tech manufacturing.
The two companies first entered into a ten-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in 2021, under which RWE agreed to supply ASML with renewable electricity. This initial arrangement has now been broadened both in scale and duration. Under the updated agreement, the contract will now cover approximately 130 megawatts (MW) of installed renewable capacity and extend through the year 2038. By increasing the supply of green electricity and extending the partnership timeline, both companies aim to support long-term sustainability goals while ensuring a stable and predictable supply of clean power.
The expanded PPA will deliver additional renewable electricity from multiple wind energy assets operated by RWE across Belgium and the Netherlands. One of the key sources of this electricity will be the Northwester 2 offshore wind farm located in Belgian waters of the North Sea. The project is already an important contributor to the region’s renewable power supply and will now play a greater role in providing sustainable energy to ASML’s operations.
In addition to Northwester 2, the agreement also includes wind power generated by several projects within RWE’s Dutch wind portfolio. Among these assets is the large-scale OranjeWind offshore wind farm, as well as several onshore wind farms including Kattenberg, Zuidwester, Westereems, and Oostpolderdijk. By combining power from multiple locations, the agreement provides a diversified renewable energy supply that helps maintain reliability while reducing carbon emissions.
The development and structuring of the expanded agreement were supported by Energie Makelaar BV, a consultancy firm based in the Netherlands specializing in energy procurement and renewable energy contracts. The firm played an important role in facilitating the deal and helping both companies align their commercial and sustainability objectives.

Construction activities for the offshore installation are scheduled to begin in 2026. The project developers expect the wind farm to be fully commissioned and operational by early 2028. When completed, OranjeWind will become an important source of clean electricity for industrial customers, including those participating in long-term power purchase agreements such as the expanded deal with ASML.
What makes the OranjeWind project particularly notable is its focus on system integration and innovative energy solutions.
