Repsol Launches Intelligent Multi-Agent Platform, Advancing AI Leadership in the Energy Sector
Repsol has introduced its proprietary intelligent agent construction platform, cementing its position at the forefront of agent-based artificial intelligence (AI) and multi-agent systems within the energy sector. This launch marks a significant stride in the company’s ongoing digital transformation, highlighting its commitment to leveraging innovative technologies to drive efficiency, productivity, and collaboration.
The platform, developed as an innovative pilot in collaboration with Accenture, enables the creation and orchestration of AI agents within structured workflows. These multi-agent systems allow teams to develop new collaborative environments that enhance existing work models. By integrating AI agents into daily operations, Repsol empowers its employees to optimize processes, make more informed decisions, and focus on high-value tasks, ultimately improving overall productivity across the organization.
A key aspect of the platform is its robust knowledge base architecture. During the planning and development phases, Repsol built extensive knowledge repositories specifically designed to support teams interacting with AI agents. These knowledge bases act as a resource hub, providing AI agents with the context and information necessary to assist employees effectively. Complementing this, the platform features an intuitive interface that adapts large language models to a professional and collaborative setting, ensuring AI agents communicate in a manner aligned with workplace objectives and protocols.
The pilot program was implemented within Repsol’s Digitalization and Services department, which encompasses over 700 employees. Within this environment, three teams were deployed with a total of 22 AI agents, supporting critical processes for more than four months. The results demonstrated tangible efficiencies, allowing employees to work more strategically while benefiting from AI-driven guidance. Following the pilot, the initiative expanded to include more than 50 employees who supervise and collaborate with AI agent teams, further enhancing operational effectiveness and refining workflows.
According to Susana Meseguer, Repsol’s Executive Managing Director of Digitalization and Services, “With the launch of the multi-agent AI platform, Repsol reaffirms its ambition to lead in the adoption of disruptive and innovative technologies in the energy sector. Since the introduction of our Digital Program over six years ago, our primary objective has been to improve efficiency and competitiveness, transforming our operations with the talent of our employees and making digitalization a central element of our strategy.”
The platform is part of Repsol’s broader digitalization agenda, which focuses on embedding AI and advanced technologies across its operations. By leveraging multi-agent AI systems, Repsol is not only automating routine tasks but also fostering an environment where human expertise and artificial intelligence complement each other. This collaborative approach ensures that employees are supported in decision-making processes while retaining the creativity and judgment that are uniquely human.
Moreover, the deployment of AI agents across Repsol’s workflows illustrates the company’s commitment to scalable, replicable solutions. The pilot’s success indicates that the intelligent agent platform can be extended to other departments and operations, helping Repsol maintain a competitive edge and remain agile in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. This strategic application of AI reflects a growing trend in the sector, where companies are increasingly leveraging digital technologies to optimize performance, reduce costs, and meet sustainability goals.
By integrating multi-agent AI systems into its business processes, Repsol is setting a benchmark for innovation in the energy industry. The platform demonstrates how AI can be harnessed not just for automation but for fostering collaboration, enhancing productivity, and driving digital transformation at scale. As the energy sector continues to evolve, Repsol’s investment in intelligent technologies positions it as a forward-thinking leader, capable of navigating the challenges and opportunities of a digital future.
