Quinbrook Expands into Canada via Strategic Investment in Elemental Clean Fuels

Quinbrook Makes Strategic Entry into Canada with Investment in Elemental Clean Fuels

Quinbrook (“Quinbrook”), a global investment manager specializing in infrastructure for the energy transition, has announced a strategic ownership stake in Elemental Clean Fuels (“ECF”), a Canadian developer advancing scalable renewable fuels and decarbonization projects nationwide.

This marks Quinbrook’s first investment in Canada, expanding its North American presence and reinforcing its commitment to infrastructure that supports decarbonization and sustainable impact. The move positions Elemental Clean Fuels as one of Canada’s most fully capitalized and execution-ready clean fuels platforms, with the scale and resources to advance multiple commercial projects simultaneously.

“Our investment in Elemental Clean Fuels provides a strong entry point into Canada’s clean energy economy and underscores our confidence in the country’s potential to drive the global transition to low-carbon fuels,” said Giulia Siccardo, Managing Director and Regional Leader for North America at Quinbrook. “British Columbia, in particular, offers abundant renewable energy resources, access to Asian growth markets, Indigenous leadership, and supportive regulations, making it an exceptionally compelling region for early green fuels deployment. The Elemental team has an outstanding development track record and shares our commitment to partnering with local stakeholders to deliver meaningful decarbonization projects.”

Founded in 2023, Elemental Clean Fuels is developing North America’s clean fuel economy by producing renewable fuels such as clean hydrogen, renewable natural gas (RNG), and advanced low-carbon fuels like methanol. Its projects across British Columbia and Alberta have the potential to produce more than 500 tons per day of clean fuels—equivalent to replacing roughly 145,000 cars or 1,400 heavy-duty trucks currently running on gasoline or diesel. These infrastructure projects are designed to serve both domestic and international industrial markets.

ECF is also committed to Indigenous partnerships and economic reconciliation. Its leadership team previously developed Cedar LNG, the world’s first Indigenous-majority-owned LNG export facility, in collaboration with the Haisla Nation. Following this model, ECF continues to work with Indigenous governments, municipalities, and industrial customers to deliver clean energy solutions tailored to community and market needs.

“We are thrilled to partner with Quinbrook. This partnership is a pivotal moment—not just for Elemental Clean Fuels, but for Canada’s ambition to become a clean energy leader,” said Zachary Steele, CEO of Elemental Clean Fuels. “With Quinbrook’s support, we now have the capital, scale, and certainty to accelerate our projects. We are building a Canadian clean fuels platform that can compete globally—decarbonizing industry, creating high-quality jobs, strengthening energy security, and fostering enduring partnerships with First Nations and local communities. This collaboration firmly positions ECF—and Canada—as a credible, long-term player in the global energy transition.”

Quinbrook’s investment complements that of Piney Point Capital, the lead investor in ECF. “Partnering with a top-tier global infrastructure firm like Quinbrook allows ECF to accelerate the development of key clean fuel assets,” said Andrew Robbins of Piney Point Capital. “We are excited to collaborate with Quinbrook as ECF moves into its next phase of portfolio execution and expansion.”

The agreement includes a substantial capital commitment from Quinbrook to fund ECF’s development pipeline. The majority stake will be acquired from ECF’s founders and Piney Point Capital, who will continue as substantial minority shareholders and board members following the transaction.

This investment underscores growing international confidence in Canada as a strategic destination for clean energy development. It aligns with federal priorities to build Indigenous partnerships, decarbonize key sectors, and position Canadian clean fuels for global export, reinforcing the country’s role as a leader in the energy transition.
