Pilot line aims to accelerate commercialization of next-generation solid-state cells with improved safety, energy density, and manufacturing scalability.
QuantumScape Corporation, a global leader in next-generation solid-state lithium-metal battery technology, has marked a significant milestone in its commercialization journey with the inauguration of its newly installed Eagle Line at its facility in San Jose. The event brought together automotive OEM customers, ecosystem partners and government officials, who were given an exclusive tour of the new production line and a closer look at the company’s latest manufacturing advancements.
The Eagle Line represents a comprehensive suite of equipment, materials and highly automated processes designed to serve as the blueprint for large-scale production of QuantumScape’s solid-state battery technology. At the heart of the line is the company’s proprietary Cobra process, a breakthrough and highly scalable method for manufacturing its unique solid-state separator. This separator is a core component of QuantumScape’s lithium-metal batteries, enabling higher energy density, faster charging and improved safety compared with conventional lithium-ion designs.
Once fully ramped up, the Eagle Line will produce QuantumScape battery cells to support a range of critical activities, including customer sampling, product testing, technology demonstrations and integration into future vehicle platforms. Beyond supplying prototype cells, the line is also intended to prove the scalability of QuantumScape’s manufacturing approach. The company plans to use the Eagle Line as a reference model for future licensing partners, allowing them to replicate the technology and manufacture batteries at gigawatt-hour scale within their own facilities.
In addition, the Eagle Line will serve as a key development platform where QuantumScape can test new process improvements and refine its technology at meaningful production volumes. This capability is expected to accelerate the company’s advanced development programs and shorten the path to commercial deployment.
Dr. Siva Sivaram, president and CEO of QuantumScape, described the Eagle Line as a major step forward for the company’s technology and commercialization strategy. He noted that the platform demonstrates the scalability of the company’s solid-state battery production and supports growing customer demand for higher-performance energy storage solutions.
Chief Operating Officer Dr. Luca Fasoli highlighted the engineering achievements behind the new line. Following the deployment of the Cobra process, the company rapidly scaled its cell-building operations, focusing on improving output, automation, quality and overall scalability. He emphasized the team’s intensive efforts in bringing the Eagle Line into operation.
QuantumScape is focused on transforming energy storage with its solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. The company aims to deliver batteries that provide significantly greater energy density, faster charging times and enhanced safety, helping accelerate the transition away from traditional energy sources and supporting a more sustainable, lower-carbon future.
