Press Conference: Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins and Commissioners Partner with Zayo to Launch $28 Million Middle-Mile and Digital Equity Initiative

Zayo, a leading provider of communications infrastructure, is partnering with Dallas County to unveil their new Middle-Mile and Digital Equity project, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). A press conference will be held on August 20, 2024, to provide details about this significant initiative.

This project will enhance internet access for up to 24,000 households across 10 selected zip codes, identified based on a needs assessment, that currently lack reliable home internet.

Purpose: The initiative aims to bolster Dallas County’s digital infrastructure by establishing a robust middle-mile fiber network, addressing local connectivity challenges, and laying the groundwork for future technological advancements. The project also reflects Zayo’s dedication to digital equity, partnering with Texas-based nonprofit Compudopt. Zayo will invest $150,000 over two years to support Compudopt in distributing 300 laptops, along with two years of multi-language tech support and warranty, as well as offering six technology and digital skill-building courses.
