Plenitude Starts Building 90MW Solar Power Plant in Spain
Plenitude has officially commenced the construction of a new 90 MW solar power plant in Fortuna, located in the Region of Murcia, Spain. The groundbreaking ceremony, held today, was attended by key representatives from the Government, the Region of Murcia, and the City Council, underscoring the importance of this renewable energy project.
Spanning approximately 120 hectares, the La Flota solar plant will be connected to the distribution grid through a 6 km underground medium-voltage line at 30 kV, along with a 30/132 kV substation. The plant will utilize around 150,000 bifacial solar modules, paired with solar tracking technology to maximize efficiency. With an expected annual production of more than 185,000 MWh, this facility will significantly contribute to the generation of energy from renewable sources, supporting Spain’s broader decarbonization goals.
The construction of the plant will be led by Negratin, a prominent Spanish company specializing in the renewable energy sector, in collaboration with local contractors and international solar technology manufacturers. A distinctive feature of this project is the inclusion of a photovoltaic generation system with battery storage, which will ensure that the site’s camp and ancillary facilities are powered entirely by renewable sources throughout the construction phase.

In line with Plenitude’s broader sustainability goals, the La Flota solar plant will incorporate several initiatives aimed at preserving biodiversity and protecting local ecosystems. Among these measures will be the installation of bug hotels to support pollinating insects and the placement of nesting boxes for birds. Additionally, Plenitude will manage more than 160 hectares of land to conserve the habitat of birds of prey and to create shelters for reptiles and amphibians.
Beyond the La Flota project, Plenitude is also financing the construction of three smaller photovoltaic plants with a combined capacity of 200 kW, to be installed on the rooftops of public buildings in the region. This initiative further highlights the company’s commitment to advancing renewable energy in diverse settings and its support for local communities.
Plenitude’s track record in the Region of Murcia is already strong, with the company having built and currently operating the Cerrillares solar plant, located in the municipalities of Jumilla and Yecla. This 50 MW plant has recently earned the UNEF Certificate of Excellence in Sustainability, which recognizes the company’s commitment to high standards of social and environmental integration, as well as its implementation of circular economy practices.
Currently, Plenitude, a subsidiary of Eni, boasts approximately 950 MW of installed capacity in solar and wind energy across Spain. The company is actively expanding its footprint, with over 1,200 MW of renewable projects currently under construction in Andalusia, Castilla y León, and Extremadura. Furthermore, Plenitude is developing more than 2 GW of new renewable capacity in various technologies, with plans to continue scaling its operations to meet Spain’s renewable energy needs.
Plenitude’s growth in Spain is part of a broader strategy to become a leader in global renewable energy.
