Plenitude Breaks Ground on 200 MW Entrenúcleos Solar Park in Spain, Reinforcing Commitment to Renewable Energy in Andalusia
Plenitude, Eni’s energy transition company, has commenced construction of its new 200 MW photovoltaic project, Entrenúcleos, marking another major step in the expansion of its renewable energy operations in Spain. The large-scale solar park is located across the municipalities of Dos Hermanas and Coria del Río in the province of Seville, Andalusia. This strategic development highlights Plenitude’s dedication to supporting Spain’s green energy transition while fostering regional economic growth.
The inauguration ceremony for Entrenúcleos took place at the construction site, where government and local officials, including representatives from the Energy Department of the Regional Ministry for Industry, Energy and Mining of the Government of Andalusia and the Dos Hermanas Town Council, participated in the symbolic placement of the first pile. This milestone marks the official start of what will become one of Plenitude’s flagship solar installations in the region.
The Entrenúcleos solar park will comprise approximately 326,000 solar panels, covering more than 300 hectares of land. It will be made up of four subprojects—Granville, Killington, Plumlee, and Rickwood—each with a capacity of 50 MWp. Once operational in 2026, the project is expected to generate more than 435 GWh of clean electricity annually, contributing significantly to Spain’s decarbonization and renewable energy goals.
To integrate the project with the national electricity network, the facility will be connected via the Entrenúcleos SET substation. This substation, developed jointly with another company, will link to the broader grid through the Red Eléctrica Española (REE) infrastructure in Dos Hermanas.
Speaking at the launch, Mariangiola Mollicone, Head of Renewables in Western Europe and Managing Director of Plenitude Renewables Spain, emphasized the significance of this project for the company and the region. “Entrenúcleos is a landmark project for Plenitude—not only because it contributes to our growth objectives in Spain, but also because it reflects our deep and ongoing commitment to Andalusia, a region that plays a key role in the country’s renewable energy landscape. With this project, we now have a portfolio of around 580 MW under construction in the region, and we look forward to continuing to invest in sustainable energy solutions that bring long-term value to local communities,” she stated.
Manuel Larrasa, General Secretary of the Energy Department of the Regional Ministry for Industry, Energy and Mining, praised the initiative, noting its broader implications for Andalusia’s economy. “Renewable energies are the oil that Andalusia never had; they are a golden opportunity for the economic and industrial growth of our land. Europe is in the process of decarbonising its industry, and this is where Andalusia, with its wealth of natural resources—sun, wind and biomass—has an undisputed leading role. Our key differentiator is our greater availability of reliable energy at competitive prices,” he explained.
Francisco Rodríguez, Mayor of Dos Hermanas, highlighted the local benefits of the project. “Undoubtedly, this is an important investment in our city that will contribute to the development of our economic activity and the consequent creation of employment. All this in a key sector such as renewable energies, which will contribute towards a sustainable energy model that is respectful with the environment. Once again, this investment positions Dos Hermanas as a benchmark for attracting major industrial and business projects,” he noted.
Commitment to Sustainability and Biodiversity
The construction of the Entrenúcleos solar park is being carried out by Solarig, a Spanish renewable energy company with extensive international experience. As part of its environmental commitment, Plenitude will incorporate sustainable construction practices into the development. One noteworthy initiative includes the use of “green steel”—a 100% recycled, zero-carbon footprint material produced in Spain—for structural components, marking an industry-leading step in sustainable construction.
Additionally, the project’s design incorporates environmental mitigation measures as mandated by local regulations. These include the creation of vegetative screening and ecological “islands” to support biodiversity. Plenitude will also allocate a portion of the land equivalent to the area occupied by the solar modules to sustainable agricultural activities. These actions aim to preserve and enhance the local habitat, particularly for endangered steppe bird species, underlining Plenitude’s long-term environmental stewardship.
Strategic Growth in Andalusia and Beyond
Entrenúcleos is the third solar plant currently under construction by Plenitude in Andalusia, following the 230 MW Guillena project in Seville and the 150 MW Caparacena development in Granada. Together, these efforts reinforce Plenitude’s strategic investment in the region, where it also serves over 60,000 retail energy customers.
Nationally, Plenitude has established a strong presence across Spain with approximately 1,300 MW of installed photovoltaic and wind capacity. Its renewable projects span several key regions, including Extremadura, Galicia, La Rioja, Catalonia, Castilla-La Mancha, and Castilla y León. With a robust pipeline of over 2 GW at various stages of development, the company is firmly positioned as a key player in Spain’s transition toward a low-carbon energy future.
