Plenitude Begins Construction on 220MW Solar Plant in Villarino de los Aires, Spain

Plenitude has officially begun construction on a solar plant in Villarino de los Aires, Salamanca, Spain, with a projected capacity of 220 MW, making it one of the largest in the Castilla y León region. The cornerstone ceremony was attended by representatives from the Regional Government, City Council, and the company.

The solar park will span approximately 286 hectares and connect to the national transmission grid via a 3.2 km underground medium-voltage line. Featuring 365,300 bifacial solar modules, the facility is expected to generate over 400,000 MWh of electricity annually.

Scheduled for completion by 2025, the project will be supported by Sterling & Wilson, a leading global photovoltaic construction firm, alongside several local companies.

To minimize environmental impact, Plenitude has implemented measures such as preserving and relocating rural huts within the site, maintaining natural water channels, installing permeable fencing, and coordinating with local farmers to ensure compatibility with land use.

Mariangiola Mollicone, Head of Western Europe Renewables and Managing Director of Plenitude in Spain, stated, “The Villarino project exemplifies our commitment to integrating with the local environment. Today’s ceremony reflects our dedication to collaboration in line with our growth strategy in Spain.”

With this new project, Plenitude enhances its footprint in Castilla y León, where it already operates a 13 MW wind farm. The company currently has over 440 MW of renewable energy capacity in Spain, including photovoltaic and wind plants in various regions such as Galicia, La Rioja, Catalonia, and Murcia. Additionally, Plenitude is developing around 1 GW of projects in Andalusia, Castilla y León, and Extremadura, while working on more than 2 GW of new projects at various development stages.

Plenitude, controlled by Eni, operates in over 15 countries and integrates renewable electricity production, energy sales, and solutions for 10 million European clients. The company also has a network of 20,000 electric vehicle charging points, aiming to reach 11.5 million clients, over 8 GW of installed renewable capacity, and 40,000 charging points by 2027.
