As the operator of the Jabung Working Area in Jambi, PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. has actively participated in forest fire prevention and response efforts in East and West Tanjung Jabung.
This year, PetroChina has been involved in nine forest fire responses—four incidents in Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency and five in Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency. Most fires occurred near residential areas.
PetroChina is a member of the Forest Fire Task Force in Jambi Province, working closely with the Indonesian Army, National Police, Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Fire Agency, and local communities.
To support preparedness efforts, PetroChina’s fire team is equipped with fire trucks, portable water pumps, fire extinguishers, and ground monitors. From August 30 to September 12, 2024, PetroChina assisted in extinguishing fires in oil palm plantations near Catur Rahayu Village, East Tanjung Jabung. Additionally, the company provided fuel for fire vehicles and food supplies for Task Force members during other incidents.
In addition to direct fire-handling efforts, PetroChina actively raises fire risk awareness among its employees and local communities. On September 3-4, 2024, PetroChina hosted a “Fire & Explosion Engineering Safety Processing & Production Facility” workshop in Jambi, attended by hundreds, including BPBD representatives and firefighters from across the province. The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of fire hazards, investigations, and proper identification of fire causes.
Moreover, PetroChina collaborated with the Office of Public Order and Firefighting (Satpol PP) in Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency to establish volunteer firefighting units in all villages and sub-districts of Geragai District. A socialization meeting to prepare the formation of these volunteer units was held on August 22, 2024, as part of PetroChina’s community development program focused on environmental protection, disaster prevention, and mitigation.
