OCP Group and ENGIE Partner to Accelerate Energy Transition

OCP Group and ENGIE have formed a strategic partnership to accelerate OCP Group’s energy transition and support Morocco’s energy transformation. This Joint Development Agreement (JDA) sets the stage for multiple innovative projects in renewable energy, energy storage, green hydrogen and ammonia, energy infrastructure, sustainable desalination, and a focused Research & Innovation (R&I) agenda.

The partnership was formalized on October 28 in Rabat, witnessed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron. The agreement was signed by Mostafa Terrab, OCP Group’s Chairman and CEO, and Catherine MacGregor, CEO of ENGIE, during the French President’s state visit to Morocco.

Key Projects and R&I Agenda Aligned with OCP Group’s Decarbonization Goals

The JDA is centered on co-developing and managing four major projects:

  1. Expanding renewable energy capacity with integrated storage solutions to enhance flexibility across OCP Group’s energy network.
  2. Building on-site electrical infrastructure to support these renewable energy sources.
  3. Developing green ammonia production and exploring additional green hydrogen derivatives such as e-methanol and e-SAF.
  4. Increasing water desalination capacity to support agricultural needs in OCP Group’s operating regions.

Additionally, the partnership includes an R&I agenda to foster innovative technologies and boost competitiveness within the collaboration.

Partnership for a Sustainable Future

By leveraging their strengths, OCP Group—a leader in the phosphate industry—and ENGIE, an international energy transition pioneer, aim to create a distinct industrial platform dedicated to sustainable energy transition. This platform is designed to boost the local industrial ecosystem, create economic and technological opportunities, and generate potential employment.

Mostafa Terrab, Chairman and CEO of OCP Group, stated, “This partnership with ENGIE reinforces our commitment to sustainable growth through energy innovation and decarbonization. Together, we are advancing OCP Group’s global competitiveness in renewables, paving the way for a sustainable future.”

Catherine MacGregor, CEO of ENGIE, added, “Our partnership with OCP reflects our shared vision for the energy transition, with a focus on diversified technological solutions. Together, we aim to advance low-carbon energy solutions, support Morocco’s industrial growth, and strengthen ENGIE’s presence in the region.”
