
NuScale Backs ENTRA1 Energy’s $25B U.S. Infrastructure Expansion Under New U.S.–Japan Framework
NuScale Power Corporation (NYSE: SMR), a global leader in advanced small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear technology, announced its strong support for ENTRA1 Energy’s position to receive up to $25 billion in investment capital under the newly established $550 billion U.S.–Japan Framework Agreement. The U.S.–Japan Framework Agreement, unveiled by the White House following a meeting between President Donald J. Trump and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo, sets the stage for an unprecedented collaboration between the two nations. The agreement aims to mobilize up to $550 billion in combined public and private investment to advance critical energy infrastructure, supply chain resilience, and economic security.
Under this framework, ENTRA1 Energy, NuScale’s exclusive global strategic partner, will spearhead the development of a fleet of large-scale power generation assets. These assets will deliver dependable, clean baseload power to meet the surging electricity demands of AI data centers, advanced manufacturing, and national defense installations—sectors that require around-the-clock, emission-free energy. In doing so, ENTRA1’s projects are expected to create thousands of high-quality American jobs, strengthen domestic industrial capacity, and reinforce U.S. energy independence.

NuScale’s SMR technology, the first and only U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)-approved small modular reactor design, offers a flexible, cost-competitive solution for clean baseload power generation. Its modular approach enables utilities and developers to add capacity incrementally, reducing upfront costs and deployment risks while maintaining reliability and safety.
The recent announcement builds upon ENTRA1’s landmark agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), which targets up to 6 gigawatts (GW) of new clean baseload power capacity using NuScale’s SMR technology. That collaboration—one of the largest clean energy development initiatives in the United States—aims to help TVA and its partners meet growing electricity demands from AI data processing, semiconductor fabrication, and electric vehicle manufacturing while maintaining zero-emission goals.
Together, the TVA partnership and the U.S.–Japan Framework initiative represent a significant step toward reindustrializing the United States through the expansion of next-generation nuclear energy. NuScale’s SMR technology, originally developed in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and leading research institutions, is designed to provide up to 77 megawatts of electricity per module, with the ability to combine multiple modules for flexible output up to hundreds of megawatts. Each NuScale plant offers enhanced safety features, including passive cooling systems and underground containment structures, eliminating the need for external water sources or operator intervention in emergencies.
These design advantages position SMRs as a key component of the global clean energy mix, capable of complementing renewable sources like wind and solar by providing reliable, carbon-free baseload generation. As demand for clean, constant electricity surges—driven by the electrification of industries and data infrastructure—SMRs are increasingly recognized as a strategic enabler of grid stability and economic competitiveness.
