Infinitum, the creator of the sustainable air-core motor, announced it has received a Silver 2024 Product of the Year Award from Consulting-Specifying Engineer. Infinitum’s Aircore EC motor for data centers was recognized in the Actuators, Motors, and Drives category by the publication’s subscribers, who are engineers that design, specify, and commission products for commercial buildings, including data centers.
With data center power demand projected to grow 160% by 2030 due to AI proliferation, energy efficiency and sustainability have become crucial for engineers and cooling equipment designers. Currently, 40% of the energy in data centers is consumed by motors for cooling equipment such as fans, pumps, and compressors. Many existing fan systems use motors with more horsepower than necessary.
Infinitum’s Aircore EC motor addresses this issue by reducing energy consumption and power requirements for data center cooling equipment. The motor can be tailored to specific horsepower, speed, and torque needs, using 10-15% less energy than traditional motors. It maintains high efficiency across various speeds and loads and features a modular design for improved serviceability and uptime.
“Data center energy use is a growing and concerning part of the current climate crisis,” said Ben Schuler, founder and CEO of Infinitum. “When thousands of motors are required to power data center cooling equipment, the 10-15% energy savings our motor provides can make a significant and meaningful impact at scale. The entire team at Infinitum is honored to win this prestigious award.”
