Iberdrola seeks launch- ups to get the most out of data centre energy
Schneider Electric and Microsoft are sharing in the challenge and will assay the proffers concertedly with the energy company
Iberdrola aims to squeeze the most out of energy effectiveness in data centres. Through its PERSEO start- up programme and in collaboration with Schneider Electric and Microsoft, Iberdrola has launched a challenge that will award companies that propose innovative results to make data centres more energy effective. Data centres are crucial to the digitalisation and robotization of smart grids- they host waiters to give pall services to run algorithms and process large quantities of data- and consume an adding quantum of energy, some of which can bereusable.Data centre energy consumption has lately soared to 200 terawatt hours( TWh) per time. The end of this challenge is to concoct ways to recover some of this energy. The key to more effective use of data centres is their cooling. Presently, a significant part of the energy used by these installations is dissipated to the atmosphere in the form of heat. This energy in the form of heat could be reused, but this poses two technological challenges the low temperature of the waste heat and the difficulty and cost of transporting it to the end stoner to, for illustration, give quarterheating.Iberdrola, in collaboration with Schneider Electric and Microsoft, proposes several different formulas to get the most out of data centres in terms of energy recovering heat for domestic, marketable or artificial purposes, cooperating between different energy consuming systems(e.g., thermal and electrical) and with demand response capabilities, and indeed to offer inflexibility and balancing services to grid drivers. The prize will correspond of subscribing a collaboration and testing agreement with PERSEO, which will assume the costs of these conditioning and give the winner with the necessary specialized support, as well as a real terrain and data to test the result, giving access to outfit, brigades, architectures, high- tech spots andco-working areas. In addition, Iberdrola could offer the party the occasion to gauge up the result, espousing it through marketable agreements or indeed investing in the sharing company. The enrollment period for the challenge began on 9 May and will end on 1 June, and the winner will be blazoned during this last month. 15 Times Instituting WITH Launch- UPSSince its creation in 2008, PERSEO has invested further than€ 100 million in launch- ups that develop innovative technologies and business models, fastening on those that ameliorate the sustainability of the energy sector through farther electrification and decarbonisation of theeconomy. The programme has concentrated its conditioning on analysing business openings and technological collaboration with launch- ups and arising companies around the world, analysing 300 companies each time and creating an ecosystem of nearly entrepreneurial companies. This investment instrument presently holds a portfolio of eightcompanies.Through PERSEO, Iberdrola carries out further than 25 real tests of technologies per time, which serve as a first step towards establishing a marketable relationship or cooperation with launch- ups. In addition, in the last two times the group has launched a aggregate of fourteen challenges in which 700 launch- ups haveparticipated.Beyond the fiscal donation, PERSEO’s support to these companies has been crucial in defining their product and business, offering them its knowledge and access to Iberdrola’s request. On the other hand, the work carried out with the launch- ups has served our company as a technological antenna to find out where our sector is heading.
