Iberdrola, in collaboration with the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the GAIA Cluster, has launched the Smart Grids Academy (SGA) at the Iberdrola Tower in Bilbao. This academy, with an international focus, aims to train professionals in the new digital skills needed to support the energy transition and the future of smart grids.
The Smart Grids Academy addresses the critical need for specialized professionals to navigate the digital and energy transformation. As emphasized during the launch, “without smart grids, there is no energy transition, and without trained professionals, there will be no smart grids.” Smart grids, which rely on digital technologies to distribute electricity, are essential for advancing the energy transition toward a decarbonized and electrified economy.
The development of specialized talent is a key priority for the Global Smart Grids Innovation Hub, an initiative established in 2021 by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and Iberdrola. The Hub aims to anticipate the evolving needs of the energy sector and position Bizkaia as a leader in smart grid innovation. It also seeks to foster local talent while attracting international expertise. The center combines Iberdrola’s technological expertise with the contributions of over 100 partner organizations and companies, acting as a catalyst for innovation in the smart grid sector.
