Iberdrola has announced a new initiative through its Perseo startup program, inviting innovative proposals for advanced wind measurement solutions. The challenge aims to enhance wind-speed and wind-direction monitoring across multiple locations within a wind farm to optimize turbine performance. Proposals can include both traditional and advanced sensor technology, and will be evaluated on factors like measurement accuracy, reliability, and ease of installation.
With over 400 wind farms and more than 15,000 turbines worldwide, Iberdrola sees precise wind data as crucial to maximizing electricity output and operational efficiency. The winning solution will have the opportunity to be implemented at one of Iberdrola’s wind farms, with potential for further commercial agreements and investment consideration. Submissions are due by December 1.
Iberdrola, a global leader in wind power with around 23,000 MW of installed capacity, has made significant strides in both onshore and offshore wind. Offshore wind capacity increased by 47.5% over the past year, largely due to new projects in France and Germany, bringing total offshore capacity to nearly 2,400 MW. The company plans to invest €15.5 billion in renewables by 2026, half of which is dedicated to offshore wind in key markets like the United States, United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
Since its inception in 2008, the Perseo program has invested over €200 million in startups focused on sustainability, electrification, and decarbonization. Perseo continues to drive innovation in the energy sector by collaborating with startups globally to push the boundaries of renewable technology.
