Iberdrola, a global leader in renewable energy, and Acciaierie Venete Spa, a major player in the European steel industry, have signed a multi-year Off-site Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 12 MW of renewable capacity. The agreement will deliver 230 GWh of green energy from one of Iberdrola’s photovoltaic plants, currently under construction, over the course of the contract.
This renewable energy supply will help reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 6,960 tonnes per year, equivalent to the CO₂ absorption of 64,000 trees or the energy needs of 5,800 households.
“This partnership with Iberdrola aligns with our commitment to sustainability,” said Francesco Semino, Chief Sustainability Officer of Acciaierie Venete Spa. “It’s part of our decarbonization strategy to reduce specific CO₂ emissions by over 50% by 2030.”
Lorenzo Costantini, Sales Director of Iberdrola Italia, expressed pride in supporting Acciaierie Venete’s sustainability goals. “This PPA reflects our commitment to promoting renewable energy use among industrial partners, contributing to Italy’s energy security.”
Iberdrola has extensive experience with long-term PPAs worldwide, including markets such as Spain, the UK, Portugal, Germany, and the US. According to Pexapark’s European PPA Market Outlook 2024, Iberdrola led Europe’s PPA market in 2023 with nearly 1,000 MW signed. In Italy, Iberdrola is actively investing in industrial decarbonization and renewable energy projects, aiming to reach 400 MW of installed capacity by 2025 to further support sustainability goals across the industrial sector.
