HDI Global USA Names New Energy & Power Underwriting Head

HDI Global USA Strengthens Energy & Power Underwriting with Appointment of Fellipe Aguiar as Head of Energy & Power U.S.

HDI Global Insurance Company, the U.S. arm of the international corporate and specialty insurer HDI Global SE, has announced a key strategic appointment aimed at reinforcing its position in one of its most important industry segments. Effective August 1, Fellipe Aguiar has been named Head of Energy & Power Underwriting U.S. for the company’s cross-division Energy & Power Unit. This newly created leadership position reflects HDI Global’s ambition to provide an enhanced, integrated, and globally coordinated offering to clients and brokers operating in both conventional and renewable energy sectors.

In his new capacity, Aguiar will lead a U.S.-based team dedicated to managing complex and large-scale risks across downstream and midstream energy, chemicals, conventional power generation, and renewable energy sources. By bringing together operational and construction risks into a single, highly specialized team, HDI aims to provide a streamlined service approach that aligns with the rapidly evolving needs of the energy sector.

A Strategic Move in a Time of Industry Transition

The creation of this leadership role is more than an internal organizational adjustment—it is part of a broader strategic effort by HDI Global to respond to the challenges and opportunities brought about by the energy transition. As global energy systems undergo unprecedented change—driven by decarbonization goals, technological advancements, and shifting regulatory frameworks—the demand for tailored, sector-specific insurance solutions is rising sharply.

HDI Global, positioning itself as the “Partner in Transformation” for its clients, is building teams capable of addressing both traditional energy needs and emerging demands in renewables and clean technologies. By appointing Aguiar—an industry veteran with over a quarter century of experience—HDI Global is signaling its readiness to deepen its engagement with the U.S. energy insurance market while leveraging its international capabilities.

An Experienced Leader with Global Expertise

Fellipe Aguiar, 48, brings with him more than 26 years of experience in the insurance industry, having spent the bulk of his career focusing on the Energy and Power sectors in both Latin America and the United States. His deep technical knowledge spans energy production, power generation, and renewable energy infrastructure.

In his new role, Aguiar will serve as the primary contact and subject matter expert for HDI’s Energy & Power business in the United States. His mandate includes not only strengthening HDI’s market presence but also fostering long-term relationships with clients and brokers, ensuring they receive tailored risk management strategies aligned with the sector’s evolving demands.

Global Resources, Local Execution

One of the defining features of HDI Global’s Energy & Power Unit is its cross-division approach, which brings together expertise from across different geographies and specialties. This model allows the company to offer clients seamless international coverage while ensuring decision-making is rooted in local market realities.

Aguiar’s team in the U.S. will have access to HDI’s extensive portfolio of services, including:

  • International Programmes — HDI is recognized as a global leader in structuring and managing multinational insurance programs.
  • Captive Solutions — Supporting companies that self-insure a portion of their risks.
  • Alternative Risk Transfer — Offering innovative financial solutions for non-traditional risk exposures.
  • AI-Driven Insights — Leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance underwriting precision and claims handling efficiency.

Since joining HDI Global in August 2024, Aguiar has played a pivotal role in strengthening ties with U.S. brokers and positioning the company as a top-tier provider in the Energy & Power sector. His strong background in both technical underwriting and relationship management has already contributed to increasing HDI’s visibility in this highly competitive space.

Leadership Perspectives

Speaking about his new role, Aguiar said:

“HDI Global operates a dedicated Energy & Power Unit worldwide, with the U.S. being one of the most strategic markets in this segment. I’m excited to apply my industry knowledge and relationship-building experience to strengthen our national presence while providing clients and brokers across the U.S. with tailored support and strategic insights. Our aim is not only to support clients operating in the traditional energy space but also to be a trusted long-term partner in their energy transition journey. Energy & Power security and transition are central challenges in today’s world – and we are well-positioned to meet them.”

Marco Hensel, Chief Underwriting Officer, HDI Global USA, emphasized the importance of the appointment:

“These are exciting times within the Energy & Power sector, and I’m convinced that our new strategic lineup—led by Fellipe—will help drive HDI Global’s profitable growth in the dynamic U.S. market. Our clients will benefit from our one-stop-shop approach, close dialogue, and fast service from our cross-division Energy & Power Unit. With his comprehensive experience in underwriting renewable and conventional energies, Fellipe will significantly strengthen our proposition for our clients and partners.”

Franz Adamczyk, Head of the Energy & Power Unit at HDI Global, further highlighted the global significance of the role:

“The HDI Global Energy & Power Unit is an integral part of our strategy to accompany clients worldwide through the energy transition. Our setup enables us to offer innovative insurance solutions along the entire value chain in the Energy sector. Here, we think globally and act locally: Fellipe Aguiar will significantly contribute with his expertise as we will actively meet the challenges of our U.S. clients and broker partners by upholding close dialogue during this time of transformation. I am very much looking forward to Fellipe’s leadership and wish him and the team the best of success.”

A Growing Market with Complex Needs

The U.S. energy sector remains one of the largest and most complex in the world, covering everything from traditional fossil fuel infrastructure to rapidly expanding renewable energy projects. With the ongoing shift toward decarbonization, companies face new layers of risk—from supply chain volatility to technological uncertainties and changing regulatory requirements.

HDI Global’s Energy & Power Unit seeks to address these risks through a combination of specialized underwriting expertise, global knowledge sharing, and innovative insurance structures. The integration of operational and construction risks under a single management team allows for faster decision-making, reduced administrative friction, and a more holistic approach to risk evaluation.
