H2SITE Names Javier Cavada as Chairman of the Board

H2SITE Appoints Javier Cavada as Chairman to Accelerate Industrial Deployment of Hydrogen Solutions

H2SITE, a technology company specializing in advanced hydrogen production and separation solutions, has announced the appointment of Javier Cavada as the new Chairman of its Board of Directors. The appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the company as it enters a phase of accelerated industrial deployment and global scale-up of its hydrogen technologies. By bringing Cavada on board, H2SITE aims to strengthen its strategic leadership, deepen industrial partnerships, and expand the commercial reach of its innovative hydrogen solutions.

The hydrogen sector is rapidly evolving as governments, energy companies, and industrial players around the world seek viable pathways to decarbonize energy systems. Within this dynamic landscape, H2SITE has positioned itself as a key technology provider focused on hydrogen production and separation technologies designed to support the emerging hydrogen economy. The addition of Cavada as Chairman is expected to provide valuable strategic direction as the company transitions from technological validation to large-scale commercial implementation.

Cavada brings more than 25 years of international leadership experience in the energy and industrial sectors. Throughout his career, he has developed a strong reputation for successfully industrializing complex technologies, building high-performing organizations, and scaling global energy platforms. His experience spans multiple areas of the energy value chain, including power generation, renewable energy, advanced energy storage, and industrial energy systems.

Currently, Cavada serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Power in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. In this role, he leads one of the world’s major energy technology providers as it advances next-generation power systems, decarbonization technologies, and hydrogen-based energy solutions. His leadership at Mitsubishi Power has focused on accelerating the transition toward cleaner energy systems while maintaining reliable and efficient power generation infrastructure.

Before joining Mitsubishi Power, Cavada served as CEO and President of Highview Power, a company recognized for its work in long-duration energy storage technologies. At Highview Power, he played a central role in advancing liquid air energy storage systems designed to help balance renewable energy supply and demand while supporting the broader energy transition. His leadership experience in this field reflects his deep understanding of emerging energy technologies and their role in building resilient, low-carbon energy systems.

Earlier in his career, Cavada spent 17 years at Wärtsilä Corporation, a global leader in energy and marine technology solutions. During his time there, he held several senior executive roles, including President of Wärtsilä’s Energy division and member of the company’s global Executive Committee. In these roles, he was responsible for leading large-scale energy operations, overseeing strategic growth initiatives, and expanding Wärtsilä’s presence in global energy markets.

His long-standing experience in leading international organizations and deploying complex energy systems is expected to provide H2SITE with valuable insights as the company continues to expand its technological footprint and move toward large-scale commercialization.

Commenting on the appointment, Andrés Galnares, Chief Executive Officer of H2SITE, emphasized the strategic importance of Cavada’s leadership at this stage of the company’s development.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Javier Cavada as Chairman of H2SITE’s Board,” Galnares said. “His industrial track record and deep experience scaling complex energy businesses will further strengthen our ability to execute at scale and accelerate industrial deployment. With Javier’s support, we will sharpen execution, scale strategic partnerships and routes-to-market, and continue transforming our validated technology into repeatable, investable industrial projects. I’m excited to work together and confident that this new phase will consolidate H2SITE’s position as a key industrial player in hydrogen solutions.”

H2SITE’s core focus lies in developing membrane reactor technologies that enable efficient hydrogen production, separation, and purification. These solutions are designed to unlock new pathways for hydrogen utilization across multiple industries, including energy generation, industrial manufacturing, and transportation. By improving the efficiency and scalability of hydrogen processes, the company aims to help accelerate the adoption of hydrogen as a key energy carrier in the global energy transition.

Hydrogen is increasingly recognized as a critical component of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, particularly in sectors that are difficult to electrify. Industries such as steel production, chemicals, heavy transportation, and power generation are exploring hydrogen as a low-carbon alternative to traditional fossil fuels. Technologies that can efficiently produce, separate, and distribute hydrogen are therefore becoming central to global decarbonization strategies.

In this context, H2SITE’s solutions aim to address key technical challenges associated with hydrogen production and transport. The company’s technologies enable the extraction of hydrogen from various carriers and industrial streams, making it possible to generate hydrogen closer to the point of use while improving overall system efficiency.

Cavada expressed enthusiasm about joining the company and supporting its next stage of growth.

“I am excited about the H2SITE team, its technology, and its execution track record,” Cavada said. “I look forward to supporting the company in accelerating industrial scale-up, strengthening strategic partnerships, and reinforcing H2SITE’s position as a leading player in hydrogen solutions.”

The appointment also marks an important transition in the company’s leadership structure. H2SITE extended its appreciation to Asier Rufino, the company’s former Chairman, who played a significant role in shaping the organization’s technological and strategic foundation.

During his tenure, Rufino contributed significantly to the development of H2SITE’s core technologies and helped guide the company through its early growth stages. His expertise in hydrogen technology and industrial development was instrumental in positioning the company as a recognized player in the European hydrogen innovation landscape.

While stepping down from the Chairman role, Rufino will continue to support H2SITE as a member of the Board of Directors. His continued involvement ensures that the company retains access to his technical expertise and institutional knowledge as it advances toward its next phase of growth.

The leadership transition comes at a time when hydrogen investment is accelerating globally. Governments and industry stakeholders are investing billions of dollars into hydrogen infrastructure, production technologies, and related supply chains. As the market continues to evolve, companies that can successfully bridge the gap between technological innovation and large-scale industrial deployment are expected to play a critical role in shaping the future hydrogen economy.

With Cavada’s appointment as Chairman, H2SITE aims to strengthen its ability to scale commercially, expand strategic partnerships, and bring its hydrogen technologies to a wider range of industrial applications worldwide. By combining technical innovation with experienced leadership, the company is positioning itself to contribute meaningfully to the development of a cleaner and more sustainable global energy system.
