GE Vernova Marks 25 Years of Veresegyház Hub with Major Modernization and Clean Energy Expansion
GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Veresegyház facility, marking a significant milestone for what has become the company’s largest Gas Power manufacturing site outside the United States. To commemorate the achievement, the company announced a comprehensive modernization program that includes the expansion of renewable energy infrastructure, the introduction of advanced lean manufacturing lines, and plans to expand its workforce by more than 80 employees in the coming years.
The Veresegyház facility has played a central role in GE Vernova’s global gas power operations for a quarter of a century. Over the years, it has evolved into a critical manufacturing and service center specializing in the production and repair of advanced gas turbine components. Equipped with sophisticated robotic welding technologies, precision machining capabilities, and specialized thermal coating systems, the site supports customers around the world by manufacturing new equipment while also extending the operational life of existing turbines through high-quality repair services.

Solar Project Enhances Energy Independence
A major highlight of the modernization effort is the development of a large-scale renewable energy system designed to improve the facility’s energy independence and reduce emissions.
The project is being completed in multiple phases. The first stage included the construction of a 2-megawatt solar carport, which now shades more than 500 parking spaces while generating clean electricity for the facility. The solar canopy has already become an important part of the site’s sustainability strategy by utilizing existing infrastructure to produce renewable power.
The second phase represents a much larger expansion. GE Vernova is installing 14.5 megawatts of photovoltaic solar panels together with a 40-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system. More than 21,000 solar panels are being deployed across approximately 15 hectares of land surrounding the manufacturing complex.
The battery storage system will help optimize the use of solar generation by storing excess electricity produced during peak sunlight hours and making it available when demand increases or solar production declines. This combination of solar generation and energy storage will provide greater operational flexibility while reducing dependence on the electrical grid.
Grid connection for the expanded renewable energy system is expected later this year.
Once fully operational, the integrated solar and battery installation is expected to supply nearly half of the facility’s annual electricity requirements. The plant currently consumes approximately 33 gigawatt-hours of electricity each year, meaning that almost 50 percent of its energy demand will eventually be met through zero-emission renewable electricity generated on-site.
The investment significantly improves the facility’s energy self-sufficiency while supporting GE Vernova’s broader sustainability strategy aimed at lowering the carbon footprint of its worldwide manufacturing operations.
Manufacturing Capacity Expands with Lean Production
The renewable energy investment is accompanied by a broad modernization of the manufacturing operation designed to meet increasing demand from the global power sector.
Growing electricity consumption, grid expansion, and the modernization of aging generation assets have created what many industry observers describe as an investment supercycle in power infrastructure. To respond to this market environment, GE Vernova has continued investing in production capabilities at its Hungarian manufacturing hub.
Last year, the company committed approximately $24.5 million toward upgrading the Veresegyház facility. The investment, supported by a planned contribution from the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA), established the foundation for the latest phase of modernization.
As part of the expansion, the plant has introduced new lean manufacturing production lines that improve workflow efficiency while increasing output. Advanced precision machinery has also been commissioned to support the production of high-value gas turbine components requiring tight manufacturing tolerances.
The modernization program further includes five newly operational advanced coating booths equipped with vacuum furnaces. These specialized systems enable the application of protective thermal coatings that help gas turbine components withstand the extreme temperatures experienced during operation.
These new capabilities strengthen both manufacturing and repair activities at the facility, enabling GE Vernova to increase production capacity while maintaining the high quality standards required for critical power generation equipment.
Supporting Global Gas Turbine Operations
The Veresegyház plant occupies a unique position within GE Vernova’s global manufacturing network.
Beyond producing components for new gas turbines, the facility also performs sophisticated repair services that extend the operating life of installed equipment. Refurbishing turbine components helps utilities improve asset reliability while reducing replacement costs and minimizing downtime.
Its expertise in robotic welding, precision machining, and advanced coating technologies has established the site as a center of excellence supporting customers across international markets.
The combination of manufacturing and repair capabilities enables the facility to respond efficiently to both new equipment demand and the growing service requirements of an expanding global installed base of gas turbines.
Workforce Expansion Continues
To support increasing production volumes, GE Vernova is continuing to invest in workforce development alongside infrastructure improvements.
Following the successful recruitment of approximately 100 new employees during the previous year, the company plans to hire more than 80 additional professionals over the coming years.
The recruitment effort will focus on skilled manufacturing positions, including machinists, welders, fitters, and assembly operators. These specialists will help operate the expanded production lines while supporting higher manufacturing and repair capacity.

She emphasized that combining advanced manufacturing technologies with renewable energy infrastructure will help ensure the Veresegyház facility remains a cornerstone of GE Vernova’s global gas power manufacturing network for decades to come.
