Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) is working diligently to restore power as Hurricane Debby moves across Florida. After making landfall earlier today in the Big Bend region, FPL has restored power to 214,000 customers by 6 p.m. and will continue efforts day and night as long as it is safe. However, further outages are anticipated as Debby progresses.
Importance: Debby continues to pose significant risks with strong winds, heavy rain, life-threatening storm surge, flooding, and tornadoes. Outages may persist throughout the state, and FPL is assessing damage and restoring power as conditions permit. The company is committed to full restoration.
Current Status:
- Power Restored: 214,000 customers
- Outages Remaining: Approximately 26,000 customers
- Staging Sites: 12
- Outages Avoided by Smart Grid: Over 34,000
Ongoing Efforts:
- Active power restoration and damage assessments.
- Specialized crews clearing roads for access.
- Restoration estimates will be provided as information becomes available.
Restoration Timeline:
- West Coast: Expect near-complete restoration by the end of August 5, with delays in flood-affected areas.
- North Florida: Restoration times will be given post-storm and after damage assessments.
Customer Actions:
- Follow local emergency officials’ warnings.
- Avoid downed power lines, report them to 911 and 800-4-OUTAGE.
- Keep roads clear for restoration workers.
- Exercise caution while driving; treat non-working traffic signals as four-way stops.
- Use generators per manufacturer’s instructions and never inside homes or garages.
