Eni and the National Company KazMunayGas (KMG) have announced the start of construction for their collaborative 250 MW Hybrid Renewables-Gas Power Plant Project in Zhanaozen, Mangystau Region, Kazakhstan. This initiative follows a formal Agreement between the two companies, marking the launch of Kazakhstan’s inaugural hybrid power plant. This plant will integrate solar, wind, and gas technologies to generate and supply stable, low-carbon electricity to KMG subsidiaries in the region.
Aligned with Eni’s decarbonization strategy, this project underscores the shared commitment of Eni and KMG to employ cutting-edge technologies for a sustainable future in the Mangystau Region.
The project represents a pioneering effort in combining advanced renewable power plants, developed in partnership with Eni’s subsidiary Plenitude, with a gas power facility to enhance the stability and reliability of electricity production. This approach leverages Eni’s extensive international industrial expertise.
Eni has been actively operating in Kazakhstan since 1992, serving as a joint operator of the Karachaganak field and participating as an equity partner in multiple projects in the Northern Caspian Sea, including the Kashagan offshore field. Eni also collaborates with KMG as a joint operator in the Abay exploration block. In Kazakhstan’s renewables sector, Eni operates through Arm Wind, a subsidiary of Plenitude, boasting an installed capacity of 150 MW.
