Enel Green Power’s Hydrogen Industrial Lab wins IPCEI Hy2Tech european backing
Enel Green Power’s Hydrogen Industrial Lab is among the winning Italian systems of IPCEI Hy2Tech backing from the4.5 billion euro fund made available by the European Union for the development of hydrogen- concentrated enterprise of strategic interest.
Enel Green Power’s Hydrogen Industrial Lab, conceived as part of Nexthy, the company’s action to accelerate the perpetration of green hydrogen technologies and business, is an artificial- scale invention laboratory to be erected in Sicily between the cosmopolises of Sortino and Carlentini( Province of Syracuse).
“ We’re proud that Nexthy is among the strategic interest enterprise named by the European Union in the prestigious IPCEI Hy2Tech area, which rewards the most innovative and promising hydrogen systems. This platform will be the ideal place to produce righteous solidarity with the world of launch- ups and exploration excellence and to respond to one of the main challenges facing Europe reducing dependence on fossil energies and accelerating decarbonization, ” said Salvatore Bernabei, CEO of Enel Green Power.
” Just as Silicon Valley is the stylish place for digital, Etna Valley is getting the’ Energy Valley’, the stylish place for the global energy revolution. Then, the NextHy action, also through to the IPCEI Hy2Tech backing, will make it possible to work in the full spirit of Open Innovability ®, with a unique structure able of connecting technology providers, artificial mates, system integrators, exploration centers, adventure plutocrats and start- ups from each over the world. It’s an ecosystem which aims to accelerate the development of green hydrogen product technologies. Open Innovability for us is the answer to climate change participating the technological and social challenges that this entails with originators around the world in order to manage, together and as a whole, an energy transition aimed at chancing a truly sustainable way of generating and distributing energy, ” reflected Ernesto Ciorra, Chief Innovability Officer at Enel.
The laboratory will grease collaboration with launch- ups and global players in order to develop, test and validate new technologies for the product and storehouse of green hydrogen in a business- integrated manner, with the end of contributing to the cost reduction of this technology, which is necessary to foster the decarbonization of hard- to- abate sectors, i.e. those diligence where direct electrification isn’t technically effective or economically feasible.
The unique structure will be integrated with a 4 MW electrolysis system that will serve as a reference for innovative technologies.
This is an ambitious design that will guarantee a reduction in the CO2 emigrations of the mates thanks to the agreement with Sapio with the Industrial Lab NextHy, the green hydrogen produced will be used by companies that look to this renewable source as the result for decarbonizing their product processes.
The laboratory will house trials in the fields of electrolyzers, storehouse systems and appurtenant factors similar as compressors, instrumentation, faucets, new accoutrements and everything additional demanded to move hydrogen, and will be powered entirely by green energy through the Carlentini wind ranch, which is connected to the electricity grid. This will allow those involved to test not only the effectiveness and trustability of their electrolysis technologies, but also their capability to offer inflexibility services to the grid. The end is to accelerate the path to the trade and marketing of these technologies by offering mates an terrain that’s completely representative of the business in which they will be operating.
The Hydrogen Industrial Lab represents the Group’s donation to the development and invention of technologies related to green hydrogen product. In order to enable this technology to contribute in the medium and long term to combating climate change, invention will accompany the scale- up of the electrolyzer assiduity. As reported in the Green Hydrogen Factbook produced by Enel, presently as important as 99 of hydrogen at global position is still produced from fossil energies. This trend can only be reversed through a concrete commitment to testing innovative results able of reducing the cost of producing green hydrogen. On this front, too, the Enel Group is doing its part by developing systems in colorful countries around the world, including Chile, Spain, the United States and Italy, with precisely this ideal in mind.
Enel Green Power ®, within the Enel Group, develops and operates renewable energy shops worldwide and is present in Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia and Oceania. A world leader in clean energy, with a total capacity of further than 54 GW and a generation blend that includes wind, solar, geothermal, and hydroelectric power, as well as energy storehouse installations, Enel Green Power is at the van of integrating innovative technologies into renewable energy shops.
