In the U.S., the average home experiences approximately five and a half hours of power outage annually. Eaton’s V2H technology offers a practical solution by allowing electric vehicle batteries to provide power during these outages. Depending on various factors such as battery capacity, the size of the home, and the season, V2H can sustain a home’s power for 10 to 20 hours. Eaton’s extensive expertise in power management systems enables the company to deliver secure and reliable V2H and V2G solutions for homes, vehicles, and grids.

Paul Ryan, Eaton’s general manager of Connected Solutions and EV Charging, highlights the significant potential of EV batteries to transform home energy systems. “EV batteries present an enormous opportunity to enable home energy systems that work smarter, harder, and more effectively — keeping the power on and reducing home energy costs,” he said. “We’re delivering the breakout technology and industry collaborations needed so homeowners can power their homes in new ways, while minimizing infrastructure investment and managing future updates through interoperability with onsite energy sources.”

Eaton’s Home as a Grid approach simplifies the energy transition process by ensuring interoperability and cybersecurity in its V2H technology. In North America, the AbleEdge™ home energy management system can integrate Vehicle EV batteries, solar, and energy storage into residential electrical systems, enabling power delivery during outages or peak demand periods. This technology eliminates the need for expensive electric panel and service upgrades that could take weeks, saving homeowners both time and money.

The collaboration with Treehouse, a provider of fast and accurate pricing as well as end-to-end installation services through licensed electricians, further accelerates the installation of these solutions, making them more accessible for consumers.

Eaton is also advancing power distribution and protection within electric vehicles by utilizing cutting-edge technologies to safeguard and manage power, especially during the Vehicle charging process. The company recently announced its partnership with Munich Electrification to develop and market its Battery Configuration Switch (BCS), which enhances flexibility in EV charging, reduces equipment requirements, and boosts performance.

At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Eaton will showcase how its solutions are contributing to more resilient, sustainable, and affordable power across a range of sectors, including homes, vehicles, buildings, factories, data centers, and the grid.   • Sankaran Subramaniam, Ph.D., will discuss “AI at the Edge: Transforming Industries and the Workplace” on January 7 at 2 p.m. in the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), North Level 2, N261.
  • Mark Kelly will address “The Energy Infrastructure of the Future” on January 9 at 9 a.m. in the LVCC, North Level 2, N261.
  • John Krzeszewski will participate in the “Automotive Cybersecurity Revs Up” session on January 9 at 9 a.m. in the LVCC, West Level 2, W219.

Visitors to CES 2025 can experience Eaton’s solutions firsthand at booth 10341 in the North Hall. This will include demonstrations of how Eaton’s V2H technology works in real-world scenarios, providing an opportunity for attendees to interact with innovative power management solutions.
