Dominion Energy anticipates restoring power to about 95% of customers in five additional counties by late Sunday night. Restoration efforts will continue through next week in heavily wooded and rural areas, where many trees have fallen and damaged the electric grid.
Power restoration is expected for 95% of customers in the following areas by 11 p.m. on Sunday, October 6:
- Abbeville, Greenwood, McCormick, Newberry, and Saluda counties. Note that Modoc Shores and Lost Wilderness in McCormick County will require longer restoration times due to severe damage and access issues.
Power will be restored in Aiken and Edgefield counties by 11 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9. Areas including Hammond Hills, Aiken Estates, Belvedere Ridge, Crossland Park, and Forest Heights will experience extended restoration periods due to significant damage and access constraints.
Customers can check estimated restoration times by county on Dominion Energy’s outage map, which will be updated regularly.
“Our customers in western South Carolina want to know when power will be restored so their lives can return to normal,” said Keller Kissam, president of Dominion Energy South Carolina. “We understand families are eager to make plans, but reconnecting miles of poles and wires will take time. Our dedicated crews are utilizing specialized equipment, including all-terrain vehicles, pontoon boats, and helicopters, to access hard-hit areas. We will continue working diligently to restore power neighborhood by neighborhood, street by street, and house by house until every last customer is back online.”
Following the storm, over 90% of Dominion Energy’s customers in western South Carolina were without power. As of 2 p.m. Friday, approximately 60% of those customers who can safely receive power had it restored. However, crews can only repair electrical service up to the home’s connection point. If storm damage exists from the weatherhead down to the meter base, a licensed electrician must make repairs before Dominion Energy can reconnect power.
Since last week, more than 4,000 Dominion Energy employees and additional resources have been working tirelessly to restore power to over 406,000 customers statewide, representing nearly 92% of those affected.
